On the Mortal Kombat 2 monitor wiring does anyone know which of the two power wires is hot and which is the return? One of the wires is violet and the other is violet with a yellow stripe.

Thanks,
Mitch

It's AC. AC is not polarity specific. Should work either way.

The only reason I asked is because the monitor manual said they had to be correct and I am not a monitor expert.

I was just looking at the service manual for the game and it lists violet as 0 and violet-yellow as 120. So presumably violet is return and violet-yellow is hot. Correct?

violet yellow is white/neutral
and violet is black/hot

Edit: i have machines with it hooked up both ways so it really doesn't matter (but if you want it done the right way i was told violet is always hot).

Weird, so I guess I don't know how to read schematics, at least AC signals anyway.

Mitch

looks like your right according to the manual, but when you get down to the power supply it changes and Violet is the AC Hot wire...

Manual for all the machines definitely says Violet-Yellow 120, violet 0 at the monitor

mecha says stop this bullshit already.

pulled from the NBA Jam manual, since I had it saved.

but just in case.. I extracted this from the MK2 manual as well ;)

make note of the pin numbers.

just to clarify.. violet = black wire (aka hot) and violet-yellow = white wire (aka neutral)

I'll post pics of my KI's power connector too, as well as an adapter that I made cut from another Midway iso's wires if you don't believe me.

OK, now you've got me really confused. I've seen those diagrams but I don't see how they apply. See the one I attached and tell me what I'm missing.

Also, I tested the monitor power line with one of those AC line testers and it said that violet/yellow was hot and violet was neutral. I don't know how accurate it is since it's designed for testing wall plug AC connections.

every intelligent person that's ever posted on KLOV has said that the part coming off the isolation transformer has no hot or neutral.

for pure aesthetics though, the violet/violet-yellow to black/white is how it goes.

take a gander at your power supply connector for instance. the pointy end of the connector is the hot wire. I guarantee you that it has a plain violet wire going into it.
