After finishing up the Neo Geo, my next project is a Mortal Kombat 2 restoration. I got it in the same lot as the Neo Geo, and it was converted to a Rampage World Tour. It was working when I picked it up, but obviously it has a few issues in the monitor. Well, I sold off the Rampage board, and got a MK2 board to go in it. Then I found out that it has a separate sound board so I picked up one of those too. I still need to get the cable that connects them. Well Last night, I tried to start up the MK2 board in it, and nothing happened. I tried another Jamma board I had(Class of 1981 Ms Pac Galaga), and it produced a high pitch whine and some screen garbage. I tested both the boards in my Simpsons cab and the Class of 81 board worked fine and the MK2 board ran through some test menus and then came up with a screen that said CMOS Coinage. Any ideas what that means? I am assuming that I need to adjust or replace the switching power supply in the MK2 cabinet. Pics of her as she was when I picked her up are attached!

You just need to replace the battery in the MK2 board to get rid of the CMOS error, or test and see if it has 3vdc. If so, leave the board powered up for a bit because if it's been off for a long time, it will throw that error up the first few times you power it up. That's common.

Thanks! I will give that a try!

Just getting back to this project. I ordered a new power supply and it has the -5V!

I just bought a sound board cable to connect the main PCB, so when it arrives, I will get back on this project.

Ok, I replaced the battery and switching power supply. I installed the pcb and connected the sound board( although I don't think I have a power cable for it) and it fired on up! No sound but the game works and I tweaked the monitor and reinstalled the control panel.

And now what everyone has been waiting for, PICS!

After adjusting the screen:

The Sound Board. That camera flash makes the light look like it is on, but it is not:

The Main board and new Switching power supply. I will clean this up once it is all working:

Lots of Wires! Anyone see the power cable for the sound board in there? I can't imagine that they take it out and leave everything else!

I just bought a cable off of ebay to power the sound card. Hopefully when that gets here the sound card works and I can get this thing working 100%!

So I got the power cable in today and I am having some issues. The light comes on and it gives me a beeping noise. Then the light will go off and come back on with another beep. Any ideas?

actually i just started an MKII project a few weeks ago.. almost done just gotta
make a new control panel from scratch... more to come.

So I bought a new bulb and starter for the light, and installed it, but then I realized that the wires running to the light fixture were missing! Anything special about that wire?

I did get the new marquee in there though.

I got the marquee in a lot deal off of ebay. It wasn't quite what I was expecting. I thought it was a reproduction marquee, but it was one printed on adhesive backing and had no stability to it. So I got some acrylic from Hobby Lobby and tried to put it on that. I got a lot of bubbles doing it that way, but it turned out alright. I still need to trim it down a little, but it looks so good in the machine already!

Wires where not anything special although the connector may be hard to find if u still have the original marquee light

Follow that group of wires on the right side near the back door. The marquee wires ran up with that group of wires. Maybe it's still hanging around.

I still need to get the other side finished, but I am proud of how this turned out. It is 100X easier to remove the black paint off of this than it was my Galaxian.

Thanks! It has a few dings in it, but it's not that bad considering its original artwork.

So, I finally got the other side stripped down and removed the paint off of the control panel. It looks good so far, but I haven't got my new CPO or Bezel art in yet. It sat in IL for a week after it was shipped. Meh.

Once I get everything in and on, I will take some more pictures.

I'm so jealous, why couldn't my cab have been painted. . . Then maybe I wouldn't have faded colors

Well, one of my sides is a bit faded, but not that bad. I assume that is the side that was facing the sun before it got painted.

So here is a question. How do you remove the coin doors and the frame around them? I was thinking of sanding them and repainting them to help make the front look better.
