I have two questions:

First, I was testing the voltages for the power supply and when my +5v is set to +5 the +12v and -5v are showing low. The +12v is showing around 10.9v and the -5 is showing around -3.7v. Is this an indication of a bad power supply?

Second, I have sound coming out of the speakers as normal but there is tons of static with it. Would this be cause by the other voltages being low?

I think your power supply is on the verge of taking a shit. typically I've seen my +12 north of 13 volts on MK2, and the -5 was probably around -4.9-ish.

considering that the -5V is a required component for the sound output to work properly, I think that it being low could be creating that "static" sound you speak of. when -5V isn't present it makes a very scary and obnoxious feedback sound. :)

also the +12 is required for the sound to even function at all. any of these you can be about a volt or so off... those are pushing it. (+5 is an exclusion, you really don't want that above 5.2)

All of the MK boards are VERY picky about voltages. Have you tried adjusting the voltage pot on the power supply?

I did try adjusting the +5 to to around 5.2v and the -5v and +12v are still low. I will try another power supply in my other machine and see how it goes. Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah, try a new power supply. Some seem to have trouble keeping the +5 and 12v adjustments in line with one another when they are "going out".

Technically you could recap your power supplies when the voltages start acting wonky but they aren't expensive so unless you have bulk caps lying around buying a new one is probably better.

I agree. My MKII has the original Peter Chou switcher in it, and I plan on rebuilding it when it gives me any issues. But only because it is the cab has matching serial no's everywhere on it, including the power supply. Otherwise I'd toss it if it acted up.

Yeah, this one isn't the original and I would have to buy everything seperate or I would try recapping. I haven't had a chance to swap power supplies because of Christmas activities but I probably will try tomorrow.

I recently have had a few issues with my dedicated MKII. Restarts and no starts. The game would come on with no start up tone and the screen would just be black. A couple of times the screen would scramble after starting up with no start up tone. this all seemed to start happening after I had it connected to a 6 outlet strip. I unpluged it from that and into the wall outlet and the problems seemed to have gone away. I check the voltage yesterday after reading this post.
here are my results:

AC voltage coming in:
First AC - 129.6
Second AC - 133

DC Voltage:
+5 = 4.97
-5 = 4.75
+12 = 12.20

should my numbers be closer then that? It seems to be the key to keeping MK games healthy. Im a complete noob so please let me know if there is anything else I should check.

I also seem to get vertical collaps anytime I move the arcade machine. Again after reading someones post i can bring the monitor back to normal after pushing on the wire connector with yellow and green wires. Dose this sound like a bad solider point?
