Mortal Kombat 2 PCB - No Video, but ROM test screen *ding* is heard

honestly, this is becoming a common issue with the T-unit hardware. something goes bad on them and I don't know what. I've mostly seen it on NBA Jam (not TE), but they're all the same.

only thing worth trying to deduce now is
1. is it the whole board?
2. just the amp?

if its just the amp then maybe the output could be bypassed before the amp and then have some cheap off board 2ch amp to get the sound to the speakers..

if its before the amp... then is it power trying to get to the board? maybe check the caps that are the first few inline when power gets on the board?

Say what?

The single ding is the self test on the audio board passing. It does that even if the main game board is dead. If you get the sound then that also means the amp is working.

The Op hasn't checked everything yet and there are no major fail points on these boards except for ROMs failing or easily gouged traces. Beyond that it's checking RAM, logic, corroded sockets, clocks, etc...

Oyy

Man I wish this hardware was "NES grade;" aka almost indestructible and working forever.

If this turns out to be a CPS1-like issue where the board just dies, I'm not gonna be happy..

Well, before purchasing a GQ4X programmer with adapter and acc, etc etc.. I decided to buy a Challenger Hack Romset for MK2, this way I can see if the revision roms are truly the issue; definitely NOT keeping this hack installed though, but at least if it works I can breath before I go ahead and reprogram roms.

the dead NBA Jam boards I have basically eat the program roms. you'll see when you pull them and stick them in a programmer I guess.
