Mortal Kombat 2 cab discovered

so how easy is it to replace the top piece of the control panel? I might be getting an mk2 as well, its been painted black im gonna try and strip it and hopefully have the same luck, but I think it needs a new control panel because it was converted a bunch of times, just the top piece. is it as simple and breaking it off and securing another piece of wood??

Aluminum to wood control panel.....Well, if the aluminum piece is there, you can just order a close replacement CPO from mamemarquees.com (renamed website) which is a peel-and-stick... That is what is on it currently.
I've just run out of funds to change the CPO out as well as the red-handled joysticks. I did order the joys, but they were the incorrect ones since these are the non-Ultimate version of the sticks.
Originally, its a clear Lexan piece that covers the Mylar CPO which is secured through the plate to the wood piece-- if I remember correctly from 8+ years ago when I had a minty-fresh original.

didnt know it was aluminum hah. thought the cp box was made outta wood. thanks! ill look more into it when I get a chance to see the cabinet

Box is wood yes, CPO is aluminum with the Mylar overlay on that. Sorry for the confusion, on my end anyway...

Using some of the tips from this thread I took some CitriStrip to the front and sides of my MK2 control panel this afternoon, removing some black paint and revealing the nice MK2 artwork underneath. Apparently this cab was once destined to become a MAME cabinet, but the previous owner rescued and reassembled it - this was one of the last steps to restore its MK2 goodness.

Here's a before and after (on the truck when I picked it up and today after stripping the black paint off):
