Just obtained a NFL Blitz 2000 Gold Edition coversion from a MK2 cab. I want to make this a dedicated cab once again and I'm in the hunt for a complete control panel for this. I'll be listing the parts in the FS section if anyone is interested. Here's what it looked like today after unloading it from the van:

I'll be needing the red T-molding as well as to figure out what was original on the harnesses. I did put the MK2 PCB I have and got that to boot up with no trouble. I'd like to get this work before stripping the paint off of the sides. What works good for painted over vinyl?

A lot of people use Citri Strip on the sides. You may want to check out this guy's YouTube page as he's uncovered a few Midway cabs before including MK2. Good luck! MK2 is one of my favorite games of all time and has a killer looking cab!

edit: A link would help. http://www.youtube.com/ctozzi123

you might need 8 way joysticks also, many blitz/gauntlet machines had those optical analog joysticks called 49 way joysticks or some crap like that

Before you start tracking down parts I would strip off the paint and see if the artwork is in good shape. If it's not then repaint it black and sell it as a Blitz. If it is, I wish you luck on acquiring all of the parts. It doesn't help that these MK cabs are so easy to convert and make great overall cabs. I've probably encountered more converted MK cabs than dedicated since I got into this hobby.

Thanks for the advice. I'm hoping that the artwork is intact. Gonna begin the process of stripping either today or tomorrow. I'll post the results soon.

here's a photo update (see pictures below). This is the first attempt on stripping paint from a cabinet. Very tough indeed. Looks to be two layers of paint on this thing. The top coat is definitely a latex and the bottom coat I'm not too sure but that was a flat black paint. Took me a good hour to do this since I'm way too paranoid to let this stuff sit for very long. I've let it simmer for about five minutes and began to scrape, removing the top layer of paint first, then reapplying the CirtriStrip stripper. Looks as if the paint likes to stick to the white part of the vinyl decal since really there's no printing or color there. What would be a good suggestion to clean up all the lose crud?

Graphics look great so far, keep us posted on the progress! I love to see MK cabs restored to their original state, as they should be...

If the sideart isn't damaged it will look great. Most of the MK2 cabs I've seen have faded logos at the top. The red is always the first to go.

i know right lol! seems like best way to get a red one is to find one that was painted over lolz!

Without an actual visual inspsection, it would be very tough to tell.

Usually people leave the original Mortal Kombat serial number tags on the inside, or you may be able to make out the graphics if you look hard enough at the black paint, if it is indeed painted over..

When I was stripping black paint off the sides of my MKII, Magic Eraser worked best at removing the last remaining amount of paint residue from the white areas of the vinyl.

PM'ed replied to. Still looing people, help a brotha out!! ;)

Another update.... This will be the last until I can cluster all the pictures together. I haven't had much time as of late with the kiddos and all. I did manage to sneak out tonight and crack at it some more with better results, unfortunately, there was some hidden bondo that resulted as well. Nothing too bad so far, here's a picture:

I've managed to use the same plastic scraper by keeping a good edge on it with, ironically, a metal scraper. I'm getting a little more confident in the application and stripping part trying not to leave as much gray area from the 2nd coat of paint. I'll keep hammering it out and keep the thread updated. I'm gonna try and have at least one side done before Tuesday (..keeping fingers crossed!).
