Mortal Kombat 1 restoration (pic heavy)

So this project has been a long time coming. Been working on it off and on for a couple months now. Like to say thanks to Rich from This Old Game for the artwork, Biomech011 for the help and inspiration (heres the pics I've owed you:) ), and Slots for the local help of getting my monitors working and finding the boards for me. So here we go.

Cabinet stripped and sanded. Used a method of Biomech's in coloring around the edges with black. Used a black woodcraft paint marker.

Also used the marker to sort of dry brush areas that needed filling so I could see and fill them all in one go.

Edges filled.

Same edge rasped and sanded.

After wiping and cleaning cabinet, side art laid out.

Artwork fully attached.

Starting to remove premask.

Premask gone.

After trimming edges, these are brought into the picture...literally.

The red duct tape is used to help the tmolding fit tighter into the slots.

And Voila! A piece of art!

One quick question to Biomech and everyone doing a restore or who owns this cabinet. Do you have this problem? The Midway logo is cutoff by the marquee retainer. Kinda getting on my nerves.

I'll be getting the cp box art from Rich soon. throw up more pics as I go. Thanks all

Do me a favor. Remove that top bracket & take a picture of it for me.

Also Is that peavy half stack going in it too?
That'll sound great!

Looking good.

Nice

Really starting to shape up man! Cant wait to see more!!! I am working towards restoring my own MK 1. Thanks to Stryker28 I finally found a few pieces I need to finish off my resto. So a shout out to Stryker28. Awesome guy. Also to Biomech and Danzig for trailblazing the way on these MK restorations. You guys are inspiring the rest of us with these cabs to go for it and restore these babies!

This bracket seems to be the same thats on my MK 2 cabinet. And I don't think the neighbors would like the sound of "Get over here!!" echoing through the neighborhood with that Peavey. :)

Ok. That's looks right.

Reason I ask was, That's where I found my front glass bracket.

my "Midway" does not get cut off by the marquee top bracket. it's close but there is no covering of the letters. looks like you also can't see your copywrite info/date/mfg mark... strange

There's your problem. (it's from Game on Graphix)
Give me your address. I'll send ya a real marquee. You can't put pepboys parts on a Ferrari.

PM me an address. We'll get that Fixed.

Brood - I AM annoying and I NEVER wear a shirt
Bio - PM sent
On a side note, I now have a GoG marquee and cp box art for sale. Price? Your dignity.

Thanks Chris. Feels good to know I'm inspiring someone somewhere. For as long as this site is around, I'll have left my mark on history for future generations. ::head growing larger:: lol

Fantastic work sir. These always make me kinda sad. Don't get me wrong, seeing all these original MK cabs being brought back to glory is great, but for the longest time, if you happened to find one that was all original and UN-FADED, you were the envy of all.

I have actually been fortunate enough in the past to have acquired 2 original MK cabs in un-faded, near mint condition. I relished the fact and felt special. But as with all things, the privilege was lost when we acquired the new sideart scans, which will always deserve the thanks of all us MK nuts to those responsible.

Again, great job and look forward to seeing it completely done. (btw, just felt like sharing a resto vid of one of the aforementioned 2 MK cabs....)

Thanks Zenomorp, and you have no idea how many times I've watched these videos, being jealous as hell of your awesome MK cab. Didn't realize they were yours!

Damn this is coming out great. I want your skulls Mortal Kombat cab.

Looking great, well done!

My MK1 is pretty damn good too.. All original unfaded side art.. A little chips here and there but I intend to fix those... I am fortunate..
