Picked up a Mortal Kombat 1 cabinet converted to a Golden Tee 2k (Sad, I Know) over the weekend. Side art was covered with black vinyl, has a Wrestlemania control panel, missing the arcade monitor but came with the Golden tee 2k PCB and trackball. Not bad for a $100. Im in the process of stripping the black vinyl and taking off excess glue.

Was up late last night trying to get all the vinyl off the right side with a heat gun. There's a couple spots on johnny cage i need to touch up though :(

If you want it to be fully restored with good art you might want to hold off for a dedicated original complete in your area since you are also missing the monitor and the original control panel. It could end up being much cheaper in the end. MK control panels come up on ebay from time to time though.

Good luck. I put MK1,2,3ult in mine.

Damn. Even with the issues, I still think it's a pretty good score. You can make your money back on the GT parts alone. Good luck on touching up the art. I can speak from experience that matching the colors and making it look "not touched up" is nearly impossible. By the way, if you run into trouble and simply want a better solution to the art, full MK1 sideart has finally just become available from thisoldgame.com

From your pic, I would say that you are pretty lucky to find an MK cab that's not faded and in decent shape. After the touch ups, I'm sure it will look great. Best of luck. Reminds me of my second MK1 restoration (no hijack intended)...

Thanks! I just need to test the golden tee 2k pcb and make sure it works before i sell it. Well.....took the vinyl off the left side of the cabinet today and it is tore up! I can see why the side art was covered. Looks like ill be ordering new side art soon :(

Damn. That sucks.

If you're going to buy side-art, without a doubt you should buy it from Rich:

Also there is a seller here on the boards who had perfect lexan cp covers cut on a CNC machine so they're perfect replacements in every way. If you're going to buy side-art you may as well bring the cp back to perfection as well. Good luck doode

Just a quick update: Heres a shot I got back of the NEW REVISED art installed.
looks like a perfect fit. So I think Im calling this done.

Looking good! I just ordered my set. I'll post pictures when I have a chance to put them up.

Speakers

Hey guys,

So I am currently Wiring up my MK cab. Im getting closer to the Marquee Lights & Speakers up top.

Has anyone of you upgraded the Speakers? I still have the Factory 8" & I'm guessing mini Sub woofer...? Just seeing if its worth upgrading while im getting near that area of the cab.

Any info?

I second that. How many people get annoyed when Goro grabs you and pounds your stomach? All treble! Hurts my ears!

Figured id update my progress. Forgot I started this thread.....Anyways the cab is almost done, just need to order side art and its finished.
