I might be picking up a dedicated Mortal Kombat 1 today along with another game :). I wanted to get an idea of price range on it so I don't overpay.

I would say that if it is mint condition and doesn't need a thing, $650 is a good price. Anything higher would be up to you. You can adjust from there depending on what repairs or restoration costs are needed.

Damn, those prices are substantially higher than I consistently see them sell for here in the Midwest. That being said, Zeno knows what he is talking about.

When purchasing a game, I always look at it from a parts perspective. A working 25" monitor that doesn't need any work would be $150-$200 just by itself, depending on level of screen burn, etc. If you take into account how much it would cost to replace artwork, etc, that's roughly $200. Buttons, joysticks, t-molding, power supply, there's $50. Now throw in the cost of an empty cabinet, $50-$100, and you have arrived at $500-$550.

I price the game and how much I am willing to spend on it based on the above. Anything under that is a good deal. Anything over that, depending on what's been done to the machine, I don't go much higher than the $550.

Thanks guys! Turns out it wasn't dedicated after all. I waited 2 months and repeatedly asked the guy to send me pictures but he never did. I got impatient so I just decided to go look at it. The game was unfortunately sitting outside and had water damage. The cabinet wasn't dedicated either. Oh well, you win some... you lose some. My new husky puppy and I had a nice little road trip. I think he enjoyed it more than I did.

I had a really nice MK1 a while back and I had a hard time moving it at $300. Made me sick. And I didn't know it at the time, but the guy that bought it ended up making a MAME out of it. He quickly went on my do not sell to list.

He MAME'd it?! I hate when people do that to a cool game like Mortal Kombat. If I sold my Pit Fighter and someone MAME'd it I probably wouldn't be all that hurt but to MAME a MK1 isn't cool.

The only thing I want to say about using parts prices to determine how much to pay for a game is you will consistently find, with most games, the amount of money you can get from parting it out will be higher than what the entire machine is worth. This is also not a quality of just arcade games (e,g, automobiles). Sometimes substantially higher, so I would caution someone not familiar with their local market to be careful because if you do not know what you are doing you can definitely overpay for a game. Either way Zeno, I have seen your work in the past and I would pay more for a game you did because I know what I would be getting.
Yeah, I really want a Simpsons, but not that bad.

First, MK doesn't get as much love as MKII. And $300 is what we would find them for.

Second, I like pitfighter and I would not hesitate to make a mame machine out of it. It's a great cab for it. I got my buddy a darkstalker in an a pitfighter cab. it's so easy to change boards. He loves it. I think it's better than a dynamo cab.

If it was working and in 9-10 condition I would pay $500.00 if all original with manuals. Work your way down from there from a parts perspective like zenomorp said.

Hhhhmmmm...what is wrong with MAMEing a cabinet? I've done my MK2 cabinet, years ago now. It would take me 10 seconds to remove the back door, 5 seconds to locate and remove the jamma harness and another 10 seconds to remove the P.C. from the cabinet floor. That's approximately 25 seconds to turn it from a MAME cabinet back to an original MK2 cabinet. Where's the deal?
