Quick question...

I have a working Mortal Kombat 1 board and sound board that has the ribbon cable but not the sound board <--> main board interconnect cable. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what are the specs on the three connectors I need to make the cable or if it easier just to find one? .. Anyone have one?

Thanks!

I think .156 molex pin female housings are all you need to make up for this.

I'd link you to the manual for the pinout, but I found an amendment sheet with my MK1 manual outlining all those pins if I recall they had them ordered backwards in the manual. lol

give me til the afternoon, I'll check my MK board for you, I don't have it at home here.

do you have the volume pot for it? it's a 50k ohm pot.

Awesome!

I don't have the volume pot, but i know that I need a 50K pot. I need the connector size for that too...

Thanks for your help!!

do you have all the parts for making those female molex housings? I mean, I've been working with games for the last 2-3 years now, and I only just bought those molex parts about 2 weeks ago. lol

Haha no. That is why i was looking for the connector sizes. I want to make the harness. Maybe it would just be easier to buy?

get some 18 gauge wire and then get these

http://www.happcontrols.com/electrical_supplies/43069800.htm

the 10-pin variety is fine, cause the Y-unit actually had separate plugs, I think. maybe that was just on the sound board side, but whatever.

and get these for the pins

http://www.happcontrols.com/electrcsup/43051500.htm

then for your wiring...

main board J2 header
1 Violet: Speaker +
2 Blue: Speaker -
3 Gray-Yellow: +12V
4 Gray-Yellow: +12V
5 Key (leave empty)
6 N/C
7 Black: Ground
8 Gray: +5V

to

sound board P7 header
1 Blue: Speaker -
2 N/C
3 N/C
4 Violet: Speaker +

sound board P6 header
1 Gray: +5V
2 Black: Ground
3 N/C
4 Key
5 Gray-Yellow: +12V
6 Gray-Yellow: +12V

of course your wires don't have to match, I just included the original wiring colors from the manual and this amendment sheet since they fucked up in the manual and had the pins labeled backwards or something lol

go accordingly with the pin numbers on the headers, they'll start with 1

alternatively you could just solder these directly and hardwire it, but that would be a pain in the ass to move the boards.

Thanks fort he write up mecha! I picked up a double dragon cab that had an MK1 harness in it, but there are connectors everywhere! I am trying to see if i got the required cable in the bunch of stuff i picked up!

I am still trying to find a close up pic of the pcbs connected by the cables.

I listed the headers and what wires should go where, that should help. I'd take a picture but I don't have my camera. ;/

this is also assuming you have a Y-unit board, though I don't think the T-unit's any different cause the sound boards are the same either way.
