So I just researched the 33" monitor I have and discovered it is a WGM331 monitor and is a medium resolution monitor. The Multi-Mortal Kombat project I am working on uses Standard resolution. This is, as I have researched, a problem. I have yet to try the monitor as I am slowly learning how to hook it up/test the monitor and was hoping for some advise.

I heard that some monitors can change modes though I am unsure if this is one of them.

So here are my thoughts:
1. No way it will work - monitor isn't comparable.
2. Some how use a CGA/EGA/YUV to VGA Arcade HD-Converter PCB to make it work.
3. Simply test it out and see what it looks like.
4. ?

I am really hoping that I can use this monitor and not buy a LCD.

I hope to hear some ideas/advise - Thanks in advance - Aaron

It's not gonna work. I did some digging, I could not find a source for a 15khz/CGA replacement chassis for a tube that size. (29in is max now days) I remember these monitors existing on Sega games (VF3, Star Trek DSN, Jurassic Park and some Atari (Gauntlet Legends/Dark Legacy) but all those games are med resolution.

Then there is the Dynamo showcase which did have a standard resolution 33", but I don't recall the model number. Probably hard as all hell to find a chassis from one of those, perhaps someone recalls the model.

Hope is not lost- If you go LCD, please review this site:

They talk about scaling hardware that will give your games a proper CRT look on a non CRT style monitor.

Thats a rough one. The Std res monitors that size would come from the old showcase cabinets, as srarcade80 noted. A Tekken 4 showcase with one in it was sold out in union city not long ago. I have a spare 25in std res tube around, but nothing 33in unfortunately.

To save you some time, if you hook this up, you will see bars of un-synced colors. You may be able to make out the picture of the game behind it, but it will be pretty messed up.

Now the resistance on the yoke will actually be different between a std res and a med res tube. You may be able to find a dual sync chassis that will work, but that would be more costly than a std res monitor.

Ill have to dig around later and see if I can find the manual for that model monitor. I didnt have much luck poking around here quickly. If I can find that, id be able to tell you if it is a switchable unit or not. Can you post some photos of the monitor chassis itself?

PM Nixs. He got a few showcase cabs recently with I believe 33" monitors. I an niot sure if they are standard, but if they are I know they would be for sale.

I appreciate all the help. It would be great if this was dual sync but I won't hold my breath. This monitor came from a unknown original game that was converted to a Fisherman's Bait. If it is possible to find the manual I would be grateful SiLeNtNiNjA1.

LCD would be my last option but is still an option. Any idea where Nixs is located?

I have included the images below as requested. Hopefully they will help.

The chassis should say P767 somewhere - i believe it is a tri-sync monitor. It should automatically sync to the right resolution.
the correct model number is 33k3301, but WG dosnt seem to have the data on its website. I locate it in the parts cross reference with a note that it is a digital tri-sync. Worst case, try hooking it up with a board that is switchable (std / med res) and see what happens. I should have a spare namco 246 mobo floating around, and a gauntlet dark legacy, that either could test it if needed.

the U3100 is an analog high resolution monitor. VGA. in contrast to the digital tri-sync lines of the D9200, D9400, D9800 etc.

I'm not 100% sure if computers can plug directly into VGA monitors, 31 KHz.. might need to find one of those ArcadeVGA video cards. would be a prime project as a MAME cab IMO

alternatively, how difficult would it be to track down a different yoke? I don't think those were bonded, but I don't remember either. if you can find a yoke, then you can swap in a different standard res chassis just fine I would think.

You got it, I just glanced back at the chart I was reading way to late last night, and the digital tri-sync is in the recommended replacement column.

But with it being a VGA resolution monitor, the MK boards will work hooked up to a cga,ega to vga converter!

Yup, who needs slickdeals or anything like that? Post it on KLOV and we will find the cheapest price, guaranteed! :-D

I actually have one on the shelf.. I should pull it and test it.

I appreciate the advise locating the model number 33k3301 and hope to have some clarification. I have yet to try the monitor yet and hope to give it a try when it warms up and I have a chance to.

I tried looking up what you described but couldn't find out anything. How do you hook a jamma board to the cga, ega to vga converter and hook it up to the arcade monitor without a vga input? Am I missing something here? I hope to understand the option. Thanks!

Thanks for the PDF! This should be very helpful. Since you are so close to me I hope its cool if I am in touch (SiLeNtNiNjA1) once I put this project in motion.

Thanks to all - AA
