More Sega G80 troubleshooting (Star Trek)

Yeah, another one. :)

One of the games I was working on at Grinkers was a Star Trek conversion (in an Asteroids). It has a dead CPU and at least one of the XY boards is bad. And the monitor, thats the one that got destroyed in shipping.

Any who... Thought I'd start a troubleshooting thread here for future searchers sake.


So, dead CPU. No signs of life anywhere. Lets check the clock signal (pin 6 on a Z80).

The Sega G80 vector games actually get their clock signal from the X-Y Timing board, the raster G80 games generate the clock signal on the CPU board.

If you look close enough at the crystal you will see that both legs are gone!

And we now have a clock signal!

the board still doesnt work though. More wrong with it. The usual suspects have already been taken care of.

sockets for the CPU, ROM, security device and PAL have been changed. I didnt have a lot of time to mess with this thing today, I'll put some more time into it tomorrow. maybe...
