Man, just shipped a beauty of a black Centipede down to the Houston area, wrapped it in plastic, cardboard, then plastic again. I figured it should be pretty well protected, but it arrived with a quarter-sized dent on the side by the control panel. They are always so careful when picking up and dropping off games, but what goes on in between is a mystery.

The good news is that NAVL is generally quick and easy when dealing with an insurance claim as long as you have all your T's crossed and I's dotted. It is just a shame to mess up a game that was pretty near perfect to begin with.

Still, I guess they are the best option at the moment, aside from driving it there yourself.

next time strap it to a pallet. Then build a wood box around it. $40 in wood and about 2 hours of your time and the game will be safer. Also if you did have to file a claim, it would look like it was properly packed. Wrapped in carboard does not look properly packed. UPS wants 2" of protection all around if you want to submit a claim. So keep that in mind..

...and I have done that when shipping with PilotAir oir ForwardAir. NAVL has always told me that I don't have to do that, as they move grand pianos and furniture across the country all the time. But you're right, the only way to be sure is to build a crate.

I tried doing just the pallet a few months ago, but found that really wasn't much protection either. In fact I am pretty sure the game that was strapped to the pallet fell on it's side at one point, although PiltoAir has yet to admit it. All you have to do is spend 5 minutes in their warehouse to see how fast they move things around on fork lifts to understand how they treat their cargo when they think no one is looking.

Says the guy that put a fucking joystick right in the middle of the control panel...

Just trying to improve on a classic. ;-)

People who restore classic cars do shit like this all the time, like putting a GPS NAV system in the dash of a '69 Mustang. Purists generally don't like it, but it sure adds to the functionality.

This thread is not making me feel very good right now.. NAVL currently has my Discs of Tron and I am supposed to get it next week. WHen they picked it up from the seller they only put shrink wrap around it and no cardboard, but they promised (Pinky-swore?) that they'd wrap it better when it got back to the shipping yard. DAMN I hope they don't F up my DOT cab!!

Just be sure to inspect it well when it arrives. Have the delivery guys unwrap it, and make note of any issues on the papers BEFORE you sign them. It will make it much easier when and if you have to file an insurance claim.

if you put a nav system in the dash of a classic car you did NOT restore it, you fucked it up. same goes for any wheels bigger than 16". if you want a new car, buy one. why ruin a classic?

What if the classic was pretty well ruined already? Rusting, sitting in the junk yard, ready for the scrap heap? Like this one.....
