Nice - it's amazing how even the black pops on the new CPO. What tips do you have for removing the old CPO? I used CitriStrip on my TRON, but it took forever to get clean (I was impatient and probably didn't let it soak in long enough)
One thing that is apparent to me is that the control panels that were not powder coated and just plain metal seemed to use a thicker adhesive and are always a pain to strip..I'm assuming to hide the metal imperfections..its usually a nice idea to apply a light primer in coats and sand..then let set before you apply new overlay IMO..gives it a nicer finish...those look really well done.
thank you - dont you wish there was replacement artwork for pretty much any game out there... We are very lucky that someone does take the time to take on these projects
A new CPO is the best thing to make a game look amazing again. It's also one of the biggest hassles to replace.
Your grill works great to remove the old overlay, then some goof off to remove any remaining residue. I don't usually paint unless you can see the edge of the cp or something, in which case I spray a quick coat of black on.
Sorry, this is sort of like one of those as-seen-on-tv before and afters. I took the first pic with a bad cell phone camera and the second pic with a DSLR. Haha.
But I swear the control panel was a mess when I got my DK. Completely cleaned/restored every part to its former glory, though the CPO and instruction card are repro. OEM buttons are where it's at!
