More Black Hole Questions

The bummer is that I have to take the power supply board back out and apart to fix the bad solder joint. The engineer that designed how that large power transistor attaches to the board must've been smoking something. Had a heck of a time getting it apart and back together last weekend. Hopefully I don't screw something new up.

Thanks for your help with this Darren, and everyone!

Tom

Glad you found the source of the problem. This reminds me of one of the axioms of repair work I sometimes forget: Always Suspect Recently Performed Work ;) or, for that matter, and previously performed work.

I haven't taken mine apart in some time, but it's not too bad with the proper tools and technique. The whole process used to be detailed and photographed at the pinrepair website... so if you can get your hands on an archive of the System80 Repair Section of that website, try to.

Luckley, the bad part isn't what I worked on last time...it has always been that way since I got this game. Too bad I can't relocate that big heat sinked transistor to somewhere else in the game and just run wires to it. Would make servicing much easier.

Anyway, I'm glad I found the issue and will be fixing it this weekend! Oh, and I do have a copy of the pinrepair docs for the Sys 80. I could not have worked on this game with out those.

Regards,
Tom
