I broke out the old 2600 for a while today. I played some Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Centipede, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, Asteroids and Space Invaders. It was a trip. Even though, they aren't real arcade games, they are still fun to play after all these years. I did the best at Asteroids.

one of my favorite games was Keystone Capers. Though it had simple game play you should get a copy and have some fun!

I hate to slam the 2600...BUT I thought most of the arcade ports stunk. I owned a Atari 2600 as a kid, and was constantly disappointed by the quality of the games. I really think this is why I collect the arcade games now....because nothing compared to the quality of the "real deal" arcade games. (except 2600 Space Invaders two player simultaneous!)

Now don't get me wrong the 2600 was lots of fun as a kid, and I think I enjoyed the "non arcade/ original games the best....because I had no basis of comparision! Some of my favorites were Yar's Revenge, Pitfall, Enduro, Midnight Magic, River Raid, and Solaris.

i've gotta say, my favorite 2600 games are jr pacman, and pitfall. all the corny sounds from pitfall are still stuck in my head even to this day.

I haven't broke out the 2600 in a while I really want to get another one and do the AV wire hack so I can ditch the converter box. I also have a big ass box of doubles to trade if anyone else has some doubles.

I remember the first time I saw Asteroids for the 2600 in color. It blew my frickin mind. We had always played it on a 13 inch B&W so all I had ever seen were various shades of grey. Though Asteroids was a good one, my 2 favorite 2600 arcade ports by far were Defender and Centipede.

I had a B/W 19" for the longest time as a kid. We had a color TV but weren't allowed to use the 2600 on it. I lost my switch box years ago. I have a RCA to coax adaptor and just plug it into the back of the TV.

Still play my original 2600. Been boxed up since my last move until I finish with the basement remodel. I have amassed over 150 carts. Demon Attack, River Raid, Space Invaders, Pitfall, Dig Dug, and Frogger probably get the most play from me. Warlords too, when I can get three others to play with me.

I too have much love, respect and GREAT memories of the 2600 but Im with you on this! Everyone beats up on the 2600 Pac-Man for being a sucky port but lets face it, every arcade port past 1980 on the 2600 sucked royally. The 2600 was just to pass the time before I got back to the arcade. There were some great games for that system, dont get me wrong. Non-arcade ports like Adventure, Pitfall, Keystone Capers (pretty much all of the Activision games) were supurb! But 'most' of the 2600 arcade ports were poo poo. On the other hand, the atari 5200 and Colecovision had great arcade ports!

Yeah, I think in the 80's, the fun was most in the carts made from outside vendors. Thinking back, my most favorite later games were made by either Activision, Imajic, or Parker Brothers.

Centipede was very good. Millipede, however, was one of the best ports ever made for the 2600. Ever part of Millipede had the feel of "let's get this as arcade-accurate as the hardware will allow for".

There were some hilariously arcade bad ports to 2600 . Double Dragon and Hogan's Alley come to mind. The Mario Bros was actually pretty good, though.
