What if you knew the game you were selling was going to be put in a laundrymat? A game you fixed and played for a long time and took care of and now was going to be beat to sh*t in a laundrymat?

Hmm If you want it to go to another collector only sell stuff here. At least there's a good chance it will stay in a collection or see action in a real arcade.

If you sell on ebay or craigslist.. Its a crapshoot. If you dont want to see it
in a laundrymat.. dont sell them the game. Wait for someone to come along
that says they collect. If course they could be bullshitting you but thats life.

Depends on the game. I'd never let an EDOT go to a laundromat, but I'd let Donkey Kongs, Centipedes, and Asteroids go all day if they paid me what I wanted for the game.

I dunno, I think it would be really cool. You know your machine is going to a place where people will play it and not just collect dust in some guy's collection. Your machine might be the memory that some kid has to take with them

I would immedietely lie that it was sold. Is it just me or are all arcade games in laundromats in crap shape?

I did only advertise here but this guy found one of my old CL postings i forgot to delete that had my phone number. He called asking if i had the game,I told him it was long gone but i had another for sale at the moment. He came by tonight and checked it out and saw another game he liked that i wasnt selling and he made an offer,a good one. He and his brother own the laundrymat and want some games for it.

Dunno guy...I guess it really depends on whether you need the funds at the moment or can find a collector with a similar offer. If it's a game you enjoy and don't really have a need to get rid of it....keep it around :)
Better to piss off a guy you'll likely never meet again than lose a game your gut tells you to keep.
If you do decide to keep it, I'd just be honest with him. Tell him you aren't trying to fish for a higher price, but the game has sentimental value and you decided you can't part with it right now. :001_sbiggrin:

I'm surprised no one has told you to turn it into a 60-in-1 yet! Isn't that the universal answer for every arcade selling problem? ;)

It sucks when you've put in work, sell it and see it get destroyed -- but ultimately it is also the buyer's game to do what he wants. With that said, it's also your game to decide who to sell to. If you don't want them to have it, be somewhat honest and just say you're backing out. Point them towards a source for beaters or a local op that may work with them (since technically they are ops as well running a laundry mat). Or maybe there is an opportunity to restore something for them that isn't from your personal collection?

Both parties need to feel okay with the deal in more ways than just cash.

So do you sacrifice a game to maybe make memories for some future collector may hunt down these games when he or she get older?
Do you take the Money and run to save more games?

Not an easy choice.

Do you ugly up the cab with Plexi over the control panels and glass panels? Do you put security bars across the coin doors?

Sell the games!
What's wrong with games in the wild?
Do you not want arcades to exist? Even if in a laundromat.
Chances are, if he's paying good money, they will be cared for.

Give some memories to others!

Unless its something thats rare or womething 100% original and in amazing condition, I don't see a problem with selling it. Now if the choice was collector or a bit more money for operator, that migh be different..

Unless it's a rare / REALLY clean machine (or one with high sentimental value) I don't see the issue here. Children may have their first "arcade game experience" in places like this, and for me the purpose of collecting them is so I can share an experience that I had as a child that doesn't really exist any more.

one of my earliest arcade experiences was on a Spy hunter that was in the back of a Pizza shop by the rest rooms, just sayin.

Games were designed to make money. I can't see what's wrong with putting a game back to doing what it was designed for. I recently sold my Phoenix to an operator. He said he had a place where it would get a lot of play. His money was as green as a collector's. Even if you sold it to a collector, there's no telling who they might sell it to.

Unless it's a dedicated MH I would go for it. It's nice to have games out in the public where they'll be used.
