My moon patrol just started resetting! Further inspection found a melted connector from the power brick. replaced the molex connector but it seems the green wire is getting super hot.
Tried a switcher with an arcade shop adapter seems to be fine now but i would like to keep this one original. any advice? Also this is my wife's favorite game so in order to keep my good graces i need to fix this! Thanks

Check the header the power connects to. Often you will see the pins oxidized. This causes resistance which builds up heat causing more oxidation, causing more heat....

Clean the pins or replace the header and see if that helps. Also, it wouldn't hurt to measure the voltages. The old style power supply boards did not have the overvoltage protection of the newer boards so it is a good idea to test them periodically to make sure the voltages haven't crept up.

Very common problem. Just changing the connector on the power brick will not fix the problem. You will need to replace the header on the power supply too.

Most likely your power supply needs to be rebuilt or recapped at a minimum. Check the connector on the big ass heat sink to see if it is also burnt.

When replacing the headers, is there any need to use locking headers? The rebuild kits from Bob Roberts (which I have) just have the basic non-locking header strips.

Locking headers are NOT required, but they are my personal preference.
