thanks yd, i've tried 2 different ps boards, 2 heat sinks, and the main pcb (game) was fine before...which means EVERYTHING would have had to die at the same time...i'm still not getting 5v (the 1'st led) on the board with the game pcb unplugged. also unplugged the coin door, in case that was shorting out somewhere. i may need another ps board, i'll let you know...i'm going to try a few other things first...

I know it sounds silly, but test the fuses. You may have a short that is popping the fuse on the PS boards.

moon patrol....again....

so...finally...i have a working moon patrol!

it was the power supply, but i still don't know which part...i swapped it out with my make trax cocktail power brick, and it's all good. except i don't get an attract screen, and it always has 2 credits. but that's better than none!
also...if anyone has a working, tested full power brick, i still want one.

Measure the voltages (remember they are AC so set your meter accordingly) at the power connector. It is rare that it is the transformer, but not unheard of.

You might also want to look into replacing the DC part of the power supply system with a switcher. Moon Patrol doesn't have CMOS high score save so the usual caveats about running a switcher on Williams boards doesn't apply (MP is an IREM product). Leave the AC part in to run the coin door lockout and lights.

<shameless plug>
I do rebuild Williams power supply boards for $20 + shipping. PM for details.

Must be on free play. If you want free play with attract mode...

The connector on the power brick is probably burnt, causing your power supplies to fail. Post a pic of your power brick and it's connectors.

...or you could come out to Hudson, and I'll test your boards, burn you the free play ROM, and sell you an ATX -> Williams power supply adapter :)

mr. dokert,
if you mean the molex from the transformer, that and the header pin were both replaced. the original was burned out, but i had it fixed. i also tried a new, not burned out heat sink. no dice. also, thanks for the advice with the make trax ps. it's not exactly how i want it, but the game works. it's not just sitting there mocking me like it has been for the past few months :).
mr. hudson,
are you going to the maine thing saturday? i could bring the entire brick with me, if not, i will take you up on your offer. let me know what your schedule is like.
thanks everyone!
