I know this is probably futile, but does ANYONE know where one could pick up a horizontal width coil for a K4600, K4900 or K7000?

The one is my Moon Patrol is snapped off below the windings. I stuck a soda straw down the center and epoxied it back together, but won't know if it works until I get some more parts in.

In the meantime, I'd like one that hasn't been glued back together.

And yes, I've searched and searched and searched.

they are not available unless you get them off a parts chassis.

if the wires are not broken off the studs your fine

if the core still turns your fine for adjusting it.

you may have to use it as is.

It doesn't turn, but I haven't put much pressure in it, for fear of breaking the core

sometimes they are just stuck.

if it will not turn i would not worry about it until you get the rest of the chassis fixed.

you can judge from your new image if it needs adjusted or not.

yup definitely leave it alone until you know you have to adjust it and usually remove it from the chassis if its stuck to work on it so you have less chance of breaking it. if its really stuck your better off leaving it alone and settling on how the size looks until you find a used replacement.

I believe I've located a working one. I'll install that and go from there.

Just for some information. They are almost always 'stuck' because they are literally glued in. They did that at the factory to keep them from coming loose. If you have one that is 'stuck' its easiest to remove the entire width coil from the monitor and work it loose that way.

Thanks. I've read of people soaking in WD-40, or heating it slightly to get it to turn. I'm not sure if the WD-40 will damage the part or not. You?

If it's stuck, I might just install it and see if I can adjust the width with capacitors, a la Ian Kellogg's page.

soak it is fine just clean it off after words (soap and water w/ferrite slug removed). let dry well before reinstall. i personally would install it without trying to unstick it and see if you really need any adjustment before all the trouble of trying to unstick it.

Back to this again:

I have another HWC, and it is seized at the top. My old one (which I epoxied) is seized at the bottom.

Before I start trying to loosen the "new" one, and potentially break it, I want to confirm something:

I read that turning the coil clockwise (driving the core downward) makes the screen narrower, hence counter clockwise would make the screen wider. Can anyone confirm this?

If so, I'll leave it alone, because everything I've read about Moon Patrol says the screen has to be adjusted as wide as possible, even swapping capacitor C365 with a lower value cap.

I'll know when I put it all together, but wanted some confirmation that I'm at least headed in the right direction.

Thanks.

I performed a rejuvenation on the tube. It was a bit scary, because the first try, it killed everything but green. I figured, what the hell; I fried it, might as well go a little further.

I started showing a G1K short; cleared it after several tries. Did a Rejuvenate on each gun a couple of times, and FINALLY got the needles to move a bit, but never out of the red.

The screen actually looks pretty good, by comparison. My reds are orange, but the greens and blues are ok.

I'm still getting odd screen distortions. The top of the screen seems to have exaggerated convergence issues. If you look to the right, the blue is kind of torn off the edge of the screen. The rest of the screen is tolerable.

Any thoughts?

UPDATE:

Well, never mind! I found with a bit of adjustment (after the monitor had been on for an hour or so), I could fix the blue splatter by simply turning the blue cutoff down. The screen actually looks pretty good now.

Dude , mine has the same splatter in the top left corner. It is also fixed now. Thanks

I'm glad my rudimentary knowledge is of use to someone. :)

I should know better than to post a question about something. It seems like I can spend 4 hours working on a problem, with no solutions. If I post the question, I'll figure it out in the next five minutes.

that almost looks like your blue is smearing. hard to tell from a video though.

That's what it was. The blue gun is apparently so much stronger than the others, I had to turn it the cutoff nearly all the way down to get rid of it.

yeah, like tires on a car, they wear uneven. it's kind of the same reason why when you rejuve one, it'll knock out one or another just by virtue of the gun spreading from the gun you cleaned to another you haven't yet.

I think you got your fill of experience when you did that rejuve lol

It was a bit scary, not knowing if it was fixing it, or permanently destroying it. After the first "Clean and Balance," it turned all colors, popped and clicked and practically died.

I'm looking forward to doing the next one.
