So long story short I picked up a Moon Patrol cabinet that was completely painted over with a dark blue paint. I knew it was a MP when other people thought it was just a simple home-built cabinet. Anyways I applied citristrip and it did pretty well, although I still have spots of blue they probably about 15% overall. I find when I use the citristrip and try to touch up it only end up mixing the original artwork paint with the dark blue paint.
I'm looking for advice on how I can clean this up. Of course once I'm done cleaning it up I'm going to have to bondo &sand and do some touch up paint on it. All in all relatively speaking the cabinet is in good shape not great but not bad either. I really don't want to have to restencil as it's a pain in my ass. I did get a little bit of green paint by mixing the yellow and blue together, so I probably want to avoid harsh chemicals any and all of your thoughts are greatly appreciated as my moon Patrol is seeing the light of day for the first time in decades

get your stencil and paint ready, you really can't save painted over stenciled art.

You can save painted over stencil art.

If you're lucky and it's water-based, use a high percentage rubbing alcohol with magic erasers. It works wonders, I started stripping a Stargate and it was like magic.

that doesn't look bad but isn't that light area over "ST" where the Magic eraser burned thru the stencil?

It's just a reflection, it doesn't bother the paint underneath at all. Of course if I ground away I'm sure it might eventually. Here's another angle.

Interesting, and nice job! I've seen a lot of attempts that ended up fading/sanding thru the stencil w/ the eraser. Citristrip definitely gives 0 Fs on stencils, i'll have to try the Magic Eraser and Alcohol method.

So what if the paint isn't water based? I originally tried and magic eraser and rubbing alcohol at 91% and the paint just laughed at me. That's why I went up to Citristrip.

One side of my Defender had "Slayer" spray painted on it complete with pentagram. 90% alcohol and a magic eraser cleaned it up beyond my wildest dreams. You would never know it was there.
