Moon Patrol. How many cabinets did it come in?

Did it just come in the one on the flyer? Did they ever repaint any other Williams cabs to build Moon Patrols? The cabinet I am restoring had some strange modifications done to it. Next to my MP I have a Joust which was a factory repainted Robotron, and I have noted quite a few inconsistencies. One of them is the routing of the lower coindoor. On the Joust, the hole is just routed out. On the MP, the hole is routed out, and then there are 2 shallow 'ears' that were factory routed on either side of the opening. They look like they were there to countersink the coindoor flanges. Only problem is, the metal mounting flanges run all around the lower coin door, so that just routing the sides, but not the top and bottom of the opening seems pointless, as the coin door still sat on the outer surface. They would have merely covered up the extra router work. Anyone know what I am talking about?

I haven't seen that on any other Moon Patrols or Jousts. Kindof sounds like an error when they were producing the cabinets.

Oh, and I can't make promises... but I have never seen a Moon Patrol in another type of cabinet (like Joust is sometimes found).

Yeah I wonder. The other mod was a thin layer of plywood screwed and glued over the front of the kickplate, starting just below the upper coindoor, effectively covering the lower coin door hole, there was no lower door present. The plywood was then laminated with formica. This mod looks way too nice and would have been way too much work for an op. Specially laminating over the plywood, effectively covering the screw heads that were placed every 4 inches. I think it was factory.

The op probably had a piece of countertop left over from his bathroom remodeling.

If there was no lower coindoor then it had to be on free play (which MP didn't have until recently).

As far as I know, Moon Patrols only came in that one case. They could control the numbers better since they licensed the boards from IREM and only ordered enough cabinets to match the number of machines they licensed. So no over or under counts.

I have a cabinet (now a Joust) that was built as a Robotron, but had Stargate paint on it under the black paint the operator applied. They probably got an order for a few more Stargates after the run was over and just grabbed unpainted Robotron cabs to fill the order.

I dunno, not having seen it. But that sounds like something a previous owner added, even if it were done nicely. Couldn't a factory do a nicer and easier job, like just get a bunch of heavy plates cut with holes in the same place as the original door, and they could just mount them using carriage bolts in the same location as the lower door? Using screws and then laminating would take a lot more time and effort than just bolting on a metal plate. Usually a company will go with the quickest/cheapest fix, that fix sounds like too much trouble.

i have a cab [now a multi-Williams] that was originally a Moon Patrol but has the wider dimensions of a Joust.

somewhere out there are Moon Patrol marquees and bezels that are wider than they should be.
