Moon Patrol and Lunar Lander in a small collection

there are better williams games of that era... robotron, joust, bubbles, sinistar would be before moon patrol IMO.

I've had both, and had both for a really LONG time...

I guess I'm kind of biased... LL was the game that got me collecting 20 years ago this month, but I've always liked MP. I had MP for probably 15 years until this year. I had a cocktail MP and really kind of miss it. However if it came down to it, MP would, and did, go before LL.

LL will be the last one out the door if necessary.

YMMV

I agree with this but you can't be that timid or wishy washy about it - get more space .

Moon Patrol was the first game I road-tripped for. My top 5 definitely.

That (top 5) could possibly be true for me as well. I can't explain my love for Moon Patrol to other people. I just have very specific, vivid memories of it at my hometown arcade as a kid. It was in a row of great Williams games (Robotron, Joust, Sinistar, Bubbles) and it was absolutely loved and played as much as the rest of them, if not more. I have a hard time imagining my game room without it. To me it's iconic, and it represents 1982 like no other game.

I hear you. My first introduction to the game was via the Atari 2600. Later, I found the game at a local coffee shop near my grade school, and I was hooked.

MP plays just fine on a MAME cab, but LL with the analog thrust and deep bass sound . . . that's a keeper. In a collection of 8 games, they all need to have unique controls or display. If one of your 8 is a MAME with the typical 2 sticks, 6 buttons each, and trackball; that frees up a lot of options for the other 7.

I used to think this way about games in MAME as well. After 10 years, I have found the attitude changing. Some of my favorite games in the game room are frogger, centipede, Ms Pacman, and Indiana Jones, and they all play just fine in MAME. I never bothered to own them for years because of that, but I am really enjoying the dedicated games. There is only one other non driving, non pin game in the gameroom (Bubbles), and it doesn't seem to play right in MAME. The control is different, and I still need to put my Bubbles stick in the MAME cab to make sure this controller isn't read different in MAME. If that was the same, all of my non driving games in the garage will be easily playable in MAME. My most wanted game is currently Mr Do, and it is also easily played in MAME.

When you find yourself very constrained for space, that MAME cabinet suddenly is worth its weight in gold.

To be fair the high end of that range is what I've seen asked for it - not sales prices I have seen . I see it listed high but not sure Ive ever seen an actual sales price - saw the list price and wrote it off .

I recall seeing a fully restored one go for just over $1700..... That was the sale price. That was over a year ago, though, and some prices have been spiking.

I would think an "all original" one in really good shape would go higher, but not $4000.

You could walk into my house with a suitcase full of $100 bills, and I still wouldn't part with mine. I've had that thing 32 years, now... it ain't leaving mah culleckshuns!!

I seem to remember $4000 being the asking price on eBay for a restored one . I don't think it sold .

I'm another LL>>MP guy because LL is more unique and interesting (concept and controls)

But what about doing an all moon-themed game room?!
MP
LL
Moon Shuttle
Moon Cresta
Lunar Battle
Lunar Rescue
Apollo 13 pinball

And of course, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker.
duh.
