Hi gang,
i am building a movie prop out of a moon cresta cocktail machine.. the production team does'nt want the machine operational just a video on the arcade monitor of arcade games playing on a loop..
i want to use the original monitor and maybe try a video composite to cga converter with a dvd playing on a loop.... any ideas?

thanks
matt

If they don't care, decase a TV to mount in there, then install a VCR or DVD playing whatever scenes they want...

ya... i just have to find a tube that will fix the same size..no composite to cga converters?

probably somewhere, but the price, shipping, wait, work, etc involved would be a lot more than just hitting a goodwill for a 13" TV (I think that's what Moon Alien cocktails had) and a cheap working VCR. They probably only need a few minutes of footage anyways...

One thing to note is that television set picture tubes are the same size as arcade tubes. In fact, the same tubes were used in both applications, so it's possible to replace a tube in an arcade monitor with one scavenged from a television. So, a the tube from an appropriately sized television will just bolt right in to the arcade frame.

This is not so with computer monitors - computer tubes are measured differently than TV/arcade tubes, and as such, won't line up with the mounting holes. Not without some kludging.

I'd go with the gutted TV mounted in the arcade frame. It will be far easier to interface to, and shouldn't take more than an hour to decase a TV and get it all mounted. Store the picture tube from the arcade monitor in the TV casing, and pack the arcade chassis away - that way when you're done with the prop you can simply reinstall the arcade tube/chassis in the frame and have a working video game again.
