Moon Cresta Chat

It is also on the 48n1s and 60n1s. As always, accuracy is a matter of opinion but the version is there.

Is Moon Cresta more fun than Stratovox?

I like Stratovox better. Actually, that's one of the earliest memories I have of video games was Stratovox. Played it at a game room while camping in Paducah KY. I could remember the phrases "Help me!", "We'll be back!", "Lucky!" years later, but not the name of the game, until MAME came out and it was properly emulated :)

There was a time shortly post-Space Invaders when Moon Cresta was the most popular game around. I like the game but I suck at it. :p

I do remember players who could get never lose a ship, get to the point where the "Arrow Olives" except one would immediately attack down the screen, and they'd always get the free credit reward. Don't know how in the heck they did it...

While I don't hate the game, I've always thought the challenge comes on too strong too fast which sours a lot of people on it. Instead of letting you play a couple stages, get your bearings, learn what you need to do and then ramp up the difficulty - Moon Cresta comes out swinging brutally from the start. After getting slaughtered in the first couple seconds, most think "why do I want to put money in this game again?" Even on free play at CAX I've seen this reaction. If you give it some time though and learn how to react to the irregular enemy patterns, it comes away as a pretty unique game.

I think Parrothead has been trying to get rid of his Super Moon Cresta ever since I got interested in this hobby.

I remember playing Eagle at the movie theater when it came out and lasting less than a minute. I got better at it but when Galaga came out I largely forgot about it, until I got my multiboard game and started to play it again as Moon Cresta. I am one of the ones who likes it.

It is possible that Eagle was the first arcade game I ever played. The store down the street had one and playing it may be my earliest memories of playing arcade games.

...

Eagle / Moon Cresta

Pretty much every Safeway and pizza place here in Colorado back in the early 80's.

Same with Galaxian and Stratovox.
