I'm working on restoring a Gyruss and have taken apart the joystick and cleaned it up as best possible. Now I'm wondering what to use to lubricate things - hopefully something that won't collect dirt, and hopefully will last a while.

They were originally lubed with some white lithium grease, but there are much better choices nowadays. I recommend you use a grease with PTFE, like a DuPont Teflon bearing grease.

I haven't tried it on a Gyruss, but what does everyone think of using the RadioShack Precision Lube Pen? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102643

I've used this specific PTFE lube almost everywhere on Pinball and Arcade applications. It works great, doesn't seem to attract dust, and supposedly bonds to plastic. Works great everywhere else, so hopefully it'll work for this application.

I think that is too light for this application. For a metal-on-metal joystick (like the Monroe or Nintendo sticks) you're going to want to pack that pivot ball point with a thick grease.
