This is probably a stupid question to most of you guys, but.....

The KLOV database says that Gyruss is an 8-way joystick, however, the Monroe joystick (which appears to be original) on my Gyruss only has 4 leaf-switches.

All of my previous games, literally, have only been 4-way games so this is my first 8-way game. So this question may sound completely newb-ish, but does the 8-way refer only to the directional plate notches that allow 8 way movement, or does it mean there are supposed to 8 leaf switches (1 for each direction)?

I am assuming this four leaf switch Monroe is an 8-way joystick? Or do I have the wrong one?

Here are the pics:

Ahhaaa....thanks Oryk!!! :)

Next question, two of em are FUBAR, does anyone sell the proper leafs?

The look a lot like pinball leaf switches, where it is stacked and can be pulled apart to replace the blades. Not sure if you can just buy new ones or not. Here's is what mine looks like:

Hmmm...the service manual says they're Wico LS. I guess NOS Wico leafs would suffice if I can hunt some down. Thanks for the pic, Mod.

There are four leaf switches and they can be actuated in pairs in order to make it 8 way.

provided the restrictor plate doesnt prevent it! circular or squarish=8way, 4 lobed shape = 4 way, 2 lobed shape = 2 way (also depends on the js sleeve that presses on the leafs, some round, some squareish) iirc
