Hey guys.
A noob,.with some noob Q's

IN replacing a monitor,.can any 19' go into a cab that requires one?
I understand the Vector/raster difference,.and that often when replacing monitors,.adjustments should be made,.
but say i have an OLD cinematronics Baseball,.
and say a Mortal K cab.
Can i swith the monitors between these cab...or any 2 cabs for that matter?
when can a certain monitor NOT go in a certain game?? (except vector/raster differences)
Im asking, because My MK is really beat up,.and my Cinematronics cab,.or another cab would be a good new hoime.
If i strip the PS and monitor and ALL Guts,.and put them into another cab,.there should be no problem right?
Or if i use the cinematronics cab as is,.with the baseball pcb,.can i just put the MK's monitor in it no prob for the baseball to play on?
thnx!

As you have read there are basicly two monitor types, raster and vector. However there are subcategories within each type. Vector pretty much are either color or monochrome while raster have monochrome, color CGA, color EGA, and color VGA.

For the most part any monitor within a subcategory can be interchanged. However, depending on the frame the monitor is in it may not fit in some cabs. There is also the concern that many newer monitors do not need an isolation transformer while virtually all older raster color monitors do. Some monitors only accept either positive or negative sync as well.

Assuming the Cinematronics game is 'Baseball, The Season II' I think the swap will work. The manual mentions that the game is negative sync with horizontal and vertical seperate. MK is a Jamma standard game and it uses negative composite sync. This shouldn't be a problem for you when hooking up the monitor since the changes are handled in the harness and require no extra work from you.

ok

where would i locate the CGA,.VGA,.etc??
how do i know what sub category my monitors are?
What if it World Series I not II
And it might not be the MK i used,.just examples,.
i have several 19" monitors,.some work better than others,.
wanted to put the better mons. in the better cabs/games.
I was gonna pull them all out,.sand and paint,.then reconnect,.but wanted to change around mons here and there.
So,.given the cinematronics tube is an old one,.and other tubes i have are all newer,.
how would i determine compatibilty or sub category?
is it labled on the monitor next to all the other labeling of voltage etc?
would it just say VGA or CGA...
thnx

The monitors are rarely labeled as CGA, EGA, etc. Most color video games use CGA resolution. This is also referred to a 'standard resolution' or 15khz. EGA is often called 'meduim resolution' (25khz) and VGA is sometimes called 'high resolution' (35khz). The easiest way to determine what res monitor you have is to find out what res the game currently operating in the cab runs on. If the picture is able to sync then the monitor is the appropriate resolution.

I was only able to find a manual for the WS II game and that is why I referenced it. It is very unlikely that the prequel used a different resolution rate.

If any of your monitors are med res you will not be able to get them to sync with a standard res game. What I have typically seen is a double image that is offset by about 1/3 of the screen horizontally when the resolutions are not matched up. The good part about medium res monitors is they are in high demand, so if you have one you can't use you should be able to trade it fairly easily.

KLOV does list what resolution a game uses but it is not always accurate. If you have any questions you can consult the manual for the game or ask here.
