Hi.

I recently purchased a Konami X-Men arcade.

I ordered a cap kit and my friend went ahead and replaced the caps for the monitor.

When we power on the machine, everything works fine for several minutes but then the monitor display starts a "wave" effect.

Turning the power off and back on will repeat the process.

Also, I ordered a Pandora's Box 5s and plugged it into the JAMMA connector. When I do this, the wave effect is the same and no controls work - even when going into the setup mode.

Attached are pictures of how I currently have the power wired in case that could matter.

Any help/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

TIA.

Those waves are interference.

Your power supply has no field ground connected.

That green wire on ground, is that your field ground that is on the wrong terminal?

Also, it is possible one of the new caps in the cap kit was bad and causing this.

You have field ground going to normal ground. And what's the yellow going to field ground? Unless your wire colors are untraditional, your setup has probs!

Field ground would be the green (ground) coming in from the power plug, right?

It is currently connected to a mounting screw on a Delta EMI filter. The "line" from the filter has two wires - one is grounded throughout the arcade, and the other is hooked into one of the GND connections on the power supply.

Should I move the connection going from the filter line from the GND to FG? Or should the green wire coming in from power cable be going directly to FG on the power supply and bypassing the filter?

I've attached pictures that hopefully can help show how things are currently wired.

Regarding the caps - there was actually one that wasn't in the kit and therefore not replaced. It's a larger cap with a"180v680uf" label. Could that be the issue? I couldn't find where to buy that one to replace.

Thanks again for the help.

Connect the green wire *after* the filter (as one of the options you gave) to FG (field ground, of course).

What's the yellow wire currently going to FG?

The yellow cable connecting from the JAMMA harness is actually connected to the "12V 1A". The labels on the PS do not align with the connectors so it appears it is connected to FG...

Okay, so I will move the line out (green) from the filter from the GND to the FG on the PS.

Will give that a try - thanks.

Do you have a green FG wire running to the monitor frame? Might be worth disconnecting.

Also, depending on what you mean by "wave", you have need to adjust the H. Hold/V. Hold pots.

Thanks for the suggestions - removed the FG connection on the monitor frame but the problem returned.

When I adjust the H hold and V hold, it gives different results. This looks more like large areas that affect the display in a wave like fashion.

The weird part is it can go 30 - 45 mins fine now but eventually the problem will return.

Wondering if it is that cap we skipped replacing mentioned in OP...

If the large cap on your monitor chassis is bad, it could cause your monitor to have the wave effect. Kind of like a flag waving in the wind.

If the picture looks good, but you see a wave, kind of like swirling in the background floating around, then I suspect a grounding issue.

If you have the swirling effect issue, after you checked the things the other people suggested, also check the plug on the cord. Is the Ground leg still there or did it get cut off?

You can also try running a jumper wires on the power supply from the Field ground lug to the "regular" ground lug.

As for the Pandora Box not working, read the manual for the Jamma setup and check your wiring. Off the top of my head, I think it's pin 27 on both side cannot be grounded. It's been discussed on here many times.

Thanks - I *think* it's more like the former(waving flag) than the latter. Will try connecting the FG to GND on the PS though.

Yep - saw information on that. I ordered a Blue Elf adaptor which I believe is supposed to bridge the two wiring differences - decided to go that route so I can still use the X-Men board when I want to.

Thanks again

FYI - from what I can tell it's a Mitsubishi 510UKB22 with a Nanao KZ-20EN chassis.

I've also noticed that the green is very prominent. I have to turn the green pot all the way down to get blacks to show - otherwise the blacks have a noticable green tint.

(Not sure whether that would matter in regards to this issue).
