I had just recently bought a machine, works well but at the bottom of the screen is the picture is perfect and about 2/3 the way up it stretches. I adjust the screen horizontally perfectly. But vertically i can only get the bottom of the video screen only soo close to the bottom of the screen and part of the top is cut off and stretched.

Is this a big problem, or do i need a new monitor? if so can i just take the tube out of a tv and replace it? or lcd?

new to all of this
Thanks

You may be able to adjust the stretch out with the vertical linearity control (V-LIN), but it could be that the monitor needs repair in order to function properly. This is one of those problems that's typically caused by old, failing electrolytic capacitors in the monitor. You don't mention what kind of monitor it is, but replacing all the old electrolytics is pretty standard maintenance on these old games. You can get a 'cap kit' - a bag of all the replacement caps for a particular monitor, and replace them all. That generally fixes problems like a warped, distorted image, smearing, etc. The cost of the parts is usually less than ten bucks.

I also suggest you perform the cap kit. There also may be a postion adjustment jumper on the board that you need to move in order to center the picture properly.

my monitor is

RCA Tube Type A63ADT10X05
Serial #D-NFDOZ084 T/c 5E WNA

where would i find a cap kit?

That's the number off the picture tube, not the monitor. Equivilent to saying you have a light fixture model "GE 100W Cool White". :D

Look for a manufacturer tag on the metal frame or near/on the chassis board. Common manufacturers are Wells Gardner, Electrohome, etc. If you post a picture of the monitor chassis, we should be able to identify it.

That is your tube number. You need to identify the chassis (circuit board on the back). Either take pics and post them here or go to Bob Roberts site and click on the "what's my monitor?" link. That page has pictures of monitor chassis for you to compare and identify your chassis.
