Got an off road thunder but the monitor is still dark even after turning the bright all the way up. It was capped about 5 mths ago. Could it need to be recapped ? Any suggestions? Thanks

YES..if it's a wells gardner monitor...look for a 47uf 160 near the flyback...if it's there...replace with the same value but higher voltage..i usually replace them with 250v instead of 160...they tend to last longer ;)

remember 47uf 250v IF you have a wells gardner..if it's not a wells... look for the highest voltage cap near the flyback and replace that cap..it should brighten it up...but no promises :)

END OF LINE.

Daniel.

PS...MAKE SURE ALL CAPS are 105*C or they will dry out sooner.

I find it staggering that people still think a cap kit is going to make your monitor brighter... maybe if your colors look washed out or faded, it can bring those back (seen that plenty of times on Nintendo monitors and K7000s) but.. that's about it.

you are most likely cursed with one of the many crap tubes of the mid-late 90s and are in need of a rejuvenator. the guns frequently crap out on them, especially if it's a Zenith tube. at which point I will repeat what someone told me about 3 years ago when I got a K7500 zapped "it will go back the way it was in about 6 months". ;)

find someone with a rejuvenator and test the tube first. if the guns check out ok then I would say your next logical step would be to tinker with the color pots on the neckboard... though I'm 98% leaning towards it being a bad tube.

Neotecs usually have a bad flyback with either (or both) the "SCREEN" or "FOCUS" controls drifting causing brightness/focus problems.

Of course it's possible your tube might need rejuvenation too.

Yeah, I've always found that strange too. The gentleman above may be right about that cap near the flyback, I'm not positive. In my experience, though, and I've capped hundreds of monitors... capkits will fix geometry problems, and bleary/contast problems, but not brightness issues.

With that said though, a lot of times on a lot of different monitors brightness can be a resistor somewhere out of spec. The cap on the neckboard I've seen fix a brightness problem too, and also your heater circuit can cause brightness issues.

Nintendo Sanyo monitor brightness problems is bad electrolytic caps most of the time. On Wells K7000 uneven brightness is bad caps.
