Monitor sparks flames every time it's turned on....

Need some help on eliminating this problem. Is the board too toast to fix?

4600??? 4900????

neckboard is drefinately cooked, im wondering of the tube is shorted or something...

repairable, but probhably alot of work...

option 2 would be go buy a goo dused or rebuilt chassis from a fellow like chris 25810 or someone simular and take your chances on wether the tubes ok or not

sorry for not knowing the monitor. This is out of a pacman machine and when i saw the flame and the smell i was a little hesitant about poking and proding. I would like to salvage this monitor but i dont want to invest alot of money in it.

Could it be as simple as cleaning the area up? Ill try to pull the monitor tonight so i can get better pics.

If that X/Y card was leaning over against the other card (like it is now) when it started burning up, that's probably part of the reason, since there is a screen control pot on that other card in the area where they are touching...

If you can locate the short circuit and rectify it, you can repair the burned traces.

Someone might be able to give you a neck board off of an otherwise trashed chassis.

You can do it.

Look closely at the picture, the XY board isn't plugged in!

Yeah, I mentioned that above after you noticed the screen control area was burned up. The X/Y card is leaning right where the screen control is usually reverse mounted, so it probably shorted something there and fried the neckboard.

I think this is a good lesson for people who pick up cheap or free games - always check inside to make sure everything is secured properly before turning it on!

I bought the game knowing there were burn marks on monitor but i analyze sellers by how they talk about their machines and if it can be fixed or not. Guy was right about burn marks but also at same time prob knew it sparked up once turned on.

So salvageable or not? I dont mind learning but at same time to i dont want to work on something where i wont see progress.

Thanks for all the information so far BTW

There are two vertical boards on the main chassis. The one on the right isn't plugged in. It is just sitting there. Plugging that thing in where it goes would be a good start. I would guess you can rebuild the chassis and repair any problems with the traces on the neck board. I just recapped a 4600 and while the chassis is pretty sloppy, it breaks down pretty well. I would probably get everything put where it is supposed to go and try again. :)

If some board was really toasted (neck board doesn't look that bad at all) then you could replace that one board and salvage everything else.
