Hello all. I have a crt monitor that has developed kind of a shadow below letters and charachters. I will try to attach a few pics...even though the quality is not very good.

I can not find alot of info on this particular monitor...presume a cap kit is in order but I really dont know where to look for them at. Nothing seems to come up with a google search...

Monitor is a Segai SE-M23VXX. just connects via a VGA cable.

In the attached pic (if you look hard) you will see the smearing below Ms. Pacman.
Does not appear on darker games but on a game like Ms Pac there are faint "shadow" bars running vertically throughout the screen.

Any advice is most appreciated.

Thanks!

Matt

if i am seeing what your trying to show it looks like the convergence is off on the tube and would need to be adjusted or use convergence strips to correct isolated problem areas. most of the monitor manuals have how to adjust the purity and convergence in them. if you have not ever done it then it can be a fairly big task.

Looks like it could maybe just be a bit of adjusting the colors and/or contrast, screen, brightness. I know when I've had monitors that weren't well color balanced which was being compensated for by too much g2 voltage (screen on the flyback) or too much contrast, it produced an effect of smearing at the edges of objects. But I agree with security, it could also be a convergence issue and can certainly be a tall order.

Thanks

Thanks to those who responded. Please educate me and do not take this as being argumentative at all. While I feel there may be a slight convergence issue in the bottom left of my screen...I dont know if my pictures are accurately describing the issue.

Look right above and below Ms Pac there is a uniform darker vertical streak...there are others accross the screen (look at bottom line on maze and you can kind of see better). The camera just isn't capturing it very well.

I guess I am hoping its not a convergence issue...as I have entered those rings of hell before and choose not to go back. I would almost rather just find a new monitor 😄

Again, not trying to contradict any of you far more experienced folks...just thought I would add a little more info to my description.

Thanks again

if you talking about that grey looking area in the maze?? if so my first guess is its a game board issue. you should try the game pcb on another monitor to rule out the monitor.

Thanks...its not screen burn...as the discoloration will move when I adjust the screen position left and right. (Leads me to believe PCB...and again this is currently hooked up to a POS 60-1.)

The focus issue is mostly using my phone to take the pics 😄

I will try to find another board to test with.
