I obtained a monitor with small but quite annoying scratches and I'm wondering if anyone has had any good results repairing scratches on the monitor glass screen. I'm guessing no from my search so far.

if anyone has obtained good results please list your method and whatever product/s you used to achieve it. I'm certain there are other out there that can also benefit from this.

If the scratches are small, simply cleaning the screen well and installing it in the cabinet should it for the most part. Once the monitor is behind the bezel glass/plexi, you probably won't be able to see them at all. If they still bother you - put the monitor in a game with tinted plexi. That even hides most burn.

I see why not a rubbing compound wouldn't work. Does great on winshields, eye glass lenses, and any other glass that can take some pressure of the rubbing. You just have to know what you are doing so you don't scuff the hell out of it.

they are still pretty darn annoying even behind glass. i have no idea what I'm doing, so hoping to get some suggestions/advise from people that have actually done this.

another complication is it might not be the glass that is scratched, it might be some sort of protective coating. the monitor in question is a kortek 2914f

anyone have any idea if this monitor has a plastic coating? i wonder if that is in the manual somewhere.

a while ago in a golden tee that had a lot of scuffing dead center in the middle of the screen from people slaming there hand into the monitors glass bezel and that hitting the crt. After thoroughly cleaning the crt, I shot some clear spray paint on the aria, let that dry for a few days, then rubed it out with a car buffer. it was way better but it was still a little blury and definitely still annoying. Eventually I did a tube swap.

Has anyone ever tried that infomercial product they make to fix scratches in eyeglasses? I'm sure it's also just clear paint, but it's probably cheap enough for someone to try. Come to think of it, there's also a couple products for 'repairing' scratches in cars that are simply pens with clear paint in them.

Huh, I think I watch too much TV!

i work at a used car lot. There IS a way to polish glass and get most scratches out but its not something that would be av available most places. We have a "glass guy" who not only can fix chips and even cracks (uses some sort of clear resin thats drawn into the crack via a vacum pump) but he can get most scratches out of auto glass..

he designed and had somebody produce a buffer... (right angled)
but unlike a buffer youd find at harbor frieght this one is fed the compound right though the center of the pad... its a constant flow because he says if it goes dry it gets too hot and risks cracking the glass or "hazing" it so bad it cant be repolished out.

Now that said, again i dont think thats a option most of us have..

the only thing i could thionk of is to to harbor frieght and get a right angled buffer..

go to a auto body supply store and get rubbing compound in various grits and a few foam pads.....

start off with the rough stuff and work your way down..

It will be a TON of work but "worth it" in the end..

the other bonus is that youd have all that stuff later on if you wanted to try to restore some plastic(rubbing compound is the best joystick ball restorer)

Tube swap

I found a 13"WG7000 series monitor at a recycling center. They had used it as a shuffle board puck. The tube was very scratched.

I picked up several 13" TV at the same place and found one with a tube compatible with the monitor and almost no run time in it's lifetime.

Tube swapped the tube.

That monitor is in my Stargate cocktail right now; best monitor in the house!
