Can someone give me a quick lesson on standard/medium resolutions (ie: the differenet chassis and their respective resolutions vs different games and their resolutions). What determines a games resolution. Is there a chart with this info? Someone please fill me in...please.

most games for the 80s are standard res monitors. ur pacman has a standard res monitor in it, probaly a go-7. med res gives you more pixels and a more detailed picture like in paperboy or super sprint. usually the med res monitor chassis are just modifyed standard res chassis with special parts on them. k4900 has a 4915 med res. chassis k7000 has a 7915 med res chassis.

Thank you for answering. I have been doing a little research and I am confused. I found this link to the Wells Gardner site and they have the K7000's as standard resolution (http://www.wellsgardner.com/service/). The reason I ask is I have a WG13K7836 (from a Centipede cocktail) and a WG25K7091 (from a Dynamo cabinet which was originally SF II, but has since been converted to Tekken 3).

Also, I wonder if there is a master list of the chassis and its resolution.
For example:

Chassis: Electrohome G07-CBO
Resolution: Standard

Can someone, please, add to this list? I think this causes a lot of sync issues, but maybe I am wrong.

most games run standard res. the only real exceptions are probably the stuff Atari was mostly putting out in the 80s, then 3D-based games by like Sega or Midway in the 90s (both EGA/medium res), and then pretty much all the shit that's out now (VGA/high res)

most of the "modern" stuff of the last 15 years will also come with a resolution switch function, usually via dipswitch, because a lot of times these games were kits installed into existing games that had standard res monitors.

since you asked though, I will add ones that I'm familiar with to your list..

Wells-Gardner K7000 19" & 25": standard (typically) or medium (believe it or not) (isolation transformer required)
Wells-Gardner K8000 33" (and others, don't know exactly): standard or medium (dual isolation transformer required)

all monitors listed below here come with SMPS and do not require isolation transformers
Wells-Gardner U2000 25" & 27": standard
Wells-Gardner U5000 25" & 27" & 39" K7600: standard & medium (switchable via jumper)
Wells-Gardner K7400 25" & 27": standard
Wells-Gardner K7500 25" & 27": medium
Wells-Gardner U3000 19" & 27": high
Wells-Gardner D9200, D9400, D9800 27": standard, medium & high (tri-sync)

Hantarex Polo 19" 25" 27" & 33": standard
Hantarex Polo/2 19" (and others): SVGA

anyone finds any errors please let me know :)

The game program and hardware determines what resolution the game is. KLOV listings are mostly accurate on this info.

As for what monitors support which resolution, go to xmission's monitor section and start reading manuals. Most list their supported frequency inside...
