This is a huge shout out to Jeff, orion3311.
He organized a monitor repair party at his place on Sunday that was also attended by Todd (EagleTG) and Mike (Malice95).
With his help we were able to bring my Donkey Kong Jr. back to life.
It was a fun afternoon getting to know everyone and talking about our favorite hobby.
I know Mike and Todd were working on two G07 repairs, which hopefully get Mike's Centipede working.
Maybe Jeff will post some of the pictures of the work in progress.
It was great meeting fellow KLOV'ers and thanks again Jeff!

We did a two man monitor repair party a few days ago. I think we repaired somewhere around 12-15 monitors and a half dozen pcbs. Luckily most only needed cap kits and the others were pretty minor repairs. It was a good time, we got alot of work completed and had fun BS'ing all night.

12-15 monitors.. dam you solder fast:)

I gotta say Orion3311 and EagleTG did a great job! I am planning on
capping my EZ20's tonight as a result of the experience they gave me.

We had both of my pace desoldering stations running all day :) We did 5 or 6 GO7, a couple 4900's and a pile of sharps. When you do cap kits in batches they go alot faster.

Dunno, that DKJr monitor still looks pretty blurry in that pic. Todd must have done that one ;)

Todd was tell me what a good time he had. I told him that it didn't happen unless there were pics, I'm glad you took some :)

Wish I knew how to work on stuff :( I can fix mechanical things, but damn, I am really impressed by those that can fix things like boards and monitors. Kudos to you!

Tutorials were part of this monitor repair party (that's part of what slowed us down a bit, you know... teach a man to fish.) If you get out to one of these, we'll hook you up with "the knowledge". "The knowledge" makes it far easier to release the magic blue smoke!!! :)

Malice: Let us know how your first solo mission goes! I haven't done one yet, but have heard that EZ20's are a bit tougher than some of the others as the caps are closer together.

Orion: One of these times we just need to rip through a bunch in a row! 12 to 15 in a night sounds fun!

i see no alcohol - cannot qualify as a party :)

It was offered but my past experience with a 7000v shock makes me separate high voltage and alcy ;-)

Todd - I'll have to upgrade the single coffee cup to a box-o-joe, but we can do it! (In fact I was going to get coffee but ran late that morning).

I wonder if there is a Guinness category for this? If not, we need to get them to create one! "Maximum number of Cap Kits installed in a 6 hour period"

Hmm... Actually... I wonder if Twin Galaxies would track this instead? Heheh.

When you guys visit my neck of the woods, hit me up! I have no less than 4 monitors I need to work on.

:D

Orion3311 and EagleTG.. you'll be happy to know I was able to get the
Jr.Pacman monitor going once I got the cable today (Thank You Orion3311).
For some reason I had to adjust the B+ quite a bit. It was in HV shutdown.
I'll probably need to replace a few more parts on the monitor as the height
coil isnt responding and their is a very slight curl over on the right side of it.

The centipede G07 looks great but it has a random sync issue. jigling the cable
fixes it sorta.. so I need to pull it and resolder all the pins.

I'd love to do a tube swap on the G07 for the Jr.Pacman bc of the screen burn in. Any suggestions on where to find a replacement tube? You just start buying random TVs and reading the yoke values? I need to find 19" or 20" tv's to fit the chassis ?

Orion3311 is totally the guy to answer this one. I'm hoping to convince him to perform a tube swap when I'm over one day, as I'd love to learn more about this side of monitor repair.

So based on Orion3311's website.. I need to find a

Mitsubishi CS-1902U 19" TV which is a direct drop in replacement for the G07.

How the hell do you find a Mitsubishi CS-1902U 19" TV these days? There has to be an easier way then hitting up random goodwill stores.

You do know that you can just find a TV with the proper CR-23 neck, then just swap the yoke and chassis from the burned-in tube? That's much easier to do than finding one specific TV...

Hmm didn't realize that could be done. I guess it needs to be reconverged
afterward. Okay that makes it easier. CR-23 is a pretty common neck right?

Am I looking for 19" or 20" TV tubes to fit a 19" chassis? (I thought I read somewhere it was 20")

So Orion3311.. how about a tube swap party sometime over the Holidays?
I'm taking off from the 18th to the end of the year. This time I'll bring a 6 pack so its an official party:)

Wow, pretty cool event. It's cool that there is support to be had out there, especially since monitors seem like the great, scary unknown for a lot of us. I know I've been sitting on a cap kit for a while... one of these days, I'll get the nerve to go for it. :)
