Anyone in Columbus willing and able to show me how to do some monitor repairs?

I have three different chasis that all have similar symptoms. No neck glow and no high pitch or static sound when powering up. Ive watched the Randy Fromm videos and read the book as well as looked all over online and am just missing something in how and where to test B+ and the HOT and other things in order to figure out what is going on. Ive successfully done a few cap kits before but thats about it. Would really love for someone to walk me through the troubleshooting process and how to take the measurements.

I can offer up some beer (home-brew even), pizza (Adriatico's even), and a good number of games to hang out and play.

Barring that, anyone local that I can just drop off the chasis and pay to have them repaired?

Thanks.

pics of the chassis would help you get them fixed.

if they are one's i repair i can do it if you want to send them out.

post some pics of the chassis so people know what they are and if they are easily fixed or not.

Peace

Thanks. Heres the first one. Its a Pentranic. The fuse blew and after replacing it there is no noise from the monitor and no neck glow. From what Ive read and researched I have been trying to test the B+ voltage off the white ceramic resistor as well as checking the 4 diodes in the upper left to see if they are open. I also have been trying to test the HOT which I believe is on the heat sync on the very bottom. So far Im not sure I am reading any of them correctly.

Any help would be really appreciated. Ill post the other one in a bit.

Ok, I powered up just the chasis and can hear a high pitch squeal from it. I tested the 4 diodes and they do not short and all show a value of about .50. I tested the two transistors that are mounted to the heat sync. Both give me shorts when measuring from emitter to collector and give a zero value in diode test. Im sure the transistor closest the flyback is the HOT. What would be the other one?

I tried testing the B+ at the ceramic resistor with my black lead grounded on the chassis. I have an auto ranging meter and it just goes all over the damn place. Does the tube need to be connected to read this correctly? Ill try it again with my analog meter to see if the meter is just acting funny.

Thanks again.

When I was in columbus Shaffer distributing was always willing to fix stuff for me. Prices weren't to bad but that was the 80's so I have no idea if they changed their policies.

Good call on Shaefer. They are a couple streets over from me. I talked to them the other day and they said they have no more parts and that everything is LCD these days. Still worth a shot if they can test things out for me.

Thanks.

Ok, put in a couple new transistors into the Pentranic monitor one was the HOT. When I power it on I can definitely hear the high pitch whine of the high voltage. Still no neck glow and no picture at all. Adjusted the screen pot and nothing. When I adjust the horizontal and vertical I can hear the high pitch whine change. I still have no idea how to check the B+. When I put my meter on there on DC it just sort of goes all crazy.

Any ideas on what else I can check? Would really love to get this thing going.

Thanks.
