Hello everyone,
I have a monitor chasis that I am debating trying to fix(again). Here's what I got. Had a K7000 chasis in a 25" that I believe has been moddified from a 19" chasis. Had it at my cousins and one day it wasn't working. Assumed it had a bad flyback. Pulled the chassis, did a cap kit, replaced the flyback, hot(SD1398) and the large Regulator Transister STR3130. Unfortunately, i was not sent the mica insulators that went in between the two transisters like I had requested. I cleaned and reused the old ones but they appeared to be in good condition. When I plugged up the chassis(for less than 3 sec), blue fire from under the metal support frame shot out. Admittedly, I did not check for continuity on the SD1398 when I installed it as I didn't see how it could be touching anything. When I tested continuity after the burnout, I found that the SD1398 appears to be grounded at every leg. Also, the blue critical safety cap that sets under that metal support piece also appears to have a spot where a flame shot through. Heres my questions.
1. Anyone have a theory as to what exactly happened to my board. Did the grounded HOT cause the safety cap to blow, or did the critical saftey cap blowing cause the HOT to be grounded.
2. Should the new flyback still be usable or is it likely that I burned it out.
3. Any other points of damage I should be looking for when seeing if this chasis is worth fixing yet again.
THanks guys.
