i want to buy one of these since some of my tubes need help.does anyone recommend a specific brand and how much would be a good price? ebay has a few but i dont know if they are working, do they fail alot or do these have a low failure rate? i have mostly go7's 4900's and 4600's if a specific model would be needed.

For the monitors you mention virtually any model on the market works. I prefer the B&K models, I have a 470 but anything from a 467 to a 490 is good. You will need the correct adaptor, for the stuff you mentioned it is a CR23. If you can pick up a 467 or 490 with the CR23 your set-up will be plug and play.

Earlier B&K models, such as the 466 can be modified to work with arcade chassis. The end of this document shows how to convert the older B&K models to the newer standard. http://www.bkprecision.com/support/downloads/pdfs/CRT_Setup_Chart.pdf

i have a Heathkit 5230 that i picked up off of eBay for about $40 shipped. it didn't have the right adapter for GO-7/K4900/K4600 etc. tubes so i made one from an old neckboard and one of the adapters i'd never use. so far it's worked very well and they usually cost less than the B&K models

i wouldn't recommend it over any other brand and it certainly doesn't have the bells and whistles some of the others do but it's an inexpensive alternative if you have a bit of knowledge (which you probably should if you're going as far as cleaning guns and rejuving tubes.)

I have owned and used all of them; Heathkit 5230, Sencore CR70, B&K 467, 470, 480, 490, 490B. They all have the same basic functionality : variable voltage cathode heaters.

In the end I'd say the Sencore units are the most versatile, B&K units the most feature-rich (actually only the 467 and 490's, other models are pretty basic), and Heathkit the best value on a budget.

I have a Sencore CR161.
Made the CR23 and CR31 adapters for it.
Works great for most anything I may ever need it for.

BK 467 came with a mess of adaptors and I had to make a CR31. It works great.

That one will suit your needs but it is missing all but one of the most commonly used adaptors. Here is a list of the adaptors that are used in arcade monitors and the associated chassis:

CR23 - Virtually everything 25" or greater as well as G07, 4900, 4600, Electrohome G08, Sanyo
CR31 - "Skinny neck" tubes such as the 19" wg K7000
CR6 - All black and whites, color and raster
CR25 - Some odd Nintendo cocktails
CR30 - Matsushitsa
CR24 - WG 6100

sencore cr7000 with the stocked adaptors with setup manual.. you will never need another rejuiv and it is the best out there hands down.
averages about $300 on ebay

I really ought to get another one to loan out to customers.. so many tubes in need of tlc.

I was afraid of that. Bought mine about 10 years ago, brand new, to the tune of close to 2k. Barely used it and was thinking about selling it, but for $300 used value, I think it's going to be a permanent part of my collection. Great units, though!
