hi all. my monitor has intermittently started going red. not loosing another colour more adding a tinge or red. it does this, stays on then goes off, intermittent like.

if i turn the brightness down its less noticeable - but then so is the game.

any ideas?

ill try get a picture of it.

could be cold solder joints on the transistors on the neckboard is where'd id start

so get a soldering iron out and re-flow those points. look to see if you can see the numbering on the transistor. if on one you cant read the number, that could be an indication the transistor got hot. those can be tested to see if they are working properly too but reflowing could be the answer. *remember* to not touch the soldering iron to the transistor leg for too long 5 6 7 seconds at the most or you can damage the transistor.

Could be an internal problem of the tube. Connecting it to a rejuvenator can test the tube to either confirm or rule the tube out.

Could be a flaky pot on the neckboard, specifically one of the two associated with red. The black level for red might be bouncing around.

I once had a Gorf monitor that had no red. The monitor worked okay in another machine. On the Gorf video driver board, the final drive transistor that controlled red was shorted. After replacing it, the red would not shut off completely so it generated a faint red raster covering the entire screen. In this case, the pull-up resistor attached to the same transistor had burned open, likely due to the shorted transistor pulling current through it 100% of the time. Replacing the resistor finally solved it.

I mention this only just in case the same sort of pull-up resistor in your machine is going bad and causing the red raster tinge.
