Monitor issue - bad sync? something deeper?

Hi,

I recently picked up a Golden Tee 98 of unknown history. At first thought I had a bad rom on the pcb but I've pretty much determined that my issue lies with the monitor. I was hoping someone may have seen this problem before or could provide some good hints to get me moving in the right direction.

First of all, the monitor is a 25k7401. Basically, I'm seeing a double image, with the "2nd" image appearing to be a mirror of the original From reading it sounds like I might have been using a medium res monitor with a standard res game, but I've determined I have a standard res monitor.

I think I've tried every possible combination of the v and h sync pins to no avail. The monitor is bright and has a full picture for the most part. I already ordered and installed a cap kit but that did little to nothing to help.

The monitor has the "remote" control board. The horizontal options seem to work fine (although one is broken) and the vertical seems to move the picture somewhat, but does nothing in the way of fixing the image.

And as a side note, I didn't have another "normal" monitor to hook up to test, but I was able to rig up one of my Sanyo 20 EZV's. The colors were inverted, but the picture was full and stable. So that's how I convinced myself the issue was with the monitor.

Thanks for reading and please help before I go insane. :)

Well, this should really be in the monitor section if you think it's a monitor problem.

I assume that last picture is of the Sanyo image? if so, then I agree that it probably is a monitor issue.

Still, your problem is not just the "double image". If you notice, one of your images is right side up, and the other image is upside down! That is just too weird.

I'm guessing you have no other games you can get close to your GT and hook up to this monitor?

I'd start with a full rebuild (caps, HOT, etc), and maybe change out your video processing IC, too....

Oops, that's my bad. I agree this should be in the monitor section. I followed a link in another monitor thread I was reading and just posted in the same area without thinking. Maybe someone with the powers could relocate this?

Yes, the last picture is the Sanyo. I think of the second image as mirror of the 1st one in the sense that it almost seems like it's a reflection from a lake or something.
The cap kit replaced the majority of the caps, but there were still 3 or 4 I noticed that weren't included. I might have to attempt to dig those out myself.

Is there a way to check out the IC to see if it's working properly or is that something that just needs to be swapped and hope it helps?

I tried another GT board (99, the one that's in it is a 98). The only other boards I have are Nintendo boards. I can try those, even though the colors would be off.

Thanks for the help. Those will be my next steps.

Is this your only game cabinet? If you have another, scoot them up close together and run the video output from a different game to this monitor....

The only other thing I have is upstairs and it's a Donkey Kong. I tried rigging up the Nintendo power supply and hooking up the DK board to my monitor but to no avail.

I'm open to other suggestions though. :)

It looks like your v. size pot is turned up all the way. turn it the other way to make the pict. smaller if you can. then turn your v. hold the opposite way as i have seen the image bend on it self when the v. hold is turned way out of adjustment.
If this is not your problem or part of your problem then you still have a cap or two out around the v. output ic. check the 2.2uf, 100uf, by the heat sink and the 33uf on the opposite side of the same heat sink. Also replace the 1n4001 diode by the v. output. The v. output should be good as i have only seen them go flat line when they go out.

When I change the v size, the image "merges" some, but part is still partially flipped. The v hold does little but make the image darker. I can see the image move just a little but it's only if I turn it all the way to the other extreme. Is the v hold not doing its job indication of any bad parts (other than the mentioned caps)?

I already had replaced the 2.2uf (c610) and the 100uf (c613) with the cap kit. And I replaced a 33uf (c615) that I think you're referring to. Are these correct? I guess I'll try to concentrate on the diode for now.

Thanks...
