i finally was able to pick up my asteroids this week!!! cabinet is in awesome condition. ive got the game playing now but it seems there is an issue with the space ship you control. there is a line going through the ship(graphix issue) that goes away at a specific degree of rotation. the ship also seems to be shooting out of line with the ship. and last but not least the ship is very jittery on rotation. everything else is working great. i am going to be replacing the power cord as someone pulled the ground plug( not sure if that could be the issue but it certainly isnt helping). any help is appreciated. ill try posting a pick.
thanks

Won't hurt to pull all the IC's (gently!) and clean the feet, hit them and sockets with de-oxit. Hopefully that's all it is and not a bad trace.

when i flip the toggle on the test switch i get two series of sound tones and thats it. no graphics come up.
thanks

That's "gotta be" a bad VROM 127 at N/P2. Try putting it in self-test and see what it reports.

You're getting a bad RAM beep code. See the owners manual, which tells you how to interpret them, and which chip(s) are bad.

When I said "it's gotta be VROM at N/P2" I meant it's gotta be VROM or VRAM at M4/R4 or P4/N4. ;)

so i finally was able to test the asteroids and it is coming up with a ram 4 error as far as the beep codes go.
thanks

does anyone sell the ram ic at R4??? i found the part number off the manual but assume thats useless. or should i be looking for it off old boards?
thanks

Use flush cutters to snip the legs, and then tweezers or bulb to pull out the remains. The objective is to not hurt the PCB first, and secondarily to remove the chip. Then inspect around the holes and remove any stray solder. Then solder in a dual wipe socket. Then you can insert a new 2114 RAM chip from twistywrist or arcadechips or Bob Roberts.
