This is from a NARC I picked up today. The monitor is dead. No neck glow, static, etc. I haven't had much of a chance to check it out other than checking fuses in the cab (replaced 1 and a holder and got the game to play blind).
I just want to positively identify it so I can properly troubleshoot.

Thanks

Cool. Being that it's a medium res, is there anything different in how I approach the troubleshooting or would the replacement parts (cap kit, flyback(?)) be the same?

Cap kit and fly should be the same, though there may be an additional cap on the small daughter card near the flyback. Just remember that a standard res game will not sync to this monitor. You don't want to be chasing your tail trying to resolve a sync problem induced by using the wrong board...

The only difference in cap kits is that there is one mounted on the little thing on the wall above the flyback.

Looks for cold solder, and burnt or broken traces in the area behind the flyback...

I'm not too observant

It might be time for some new glasses...I've looked on my board and in the manual, and for the life of me, I can't see R301. Perhaps I just need more sleep. Anyone have a pic with a nice, big arrow pointed at it? I really want to get this monitor up and running.

Thanks!

I think r301 is the big ceramic one on the "outside/side" of the chassis kinda behind the regulator.

Awesome. I was getting over 160 on R310. I desoldered a leg of D10 and got a picture! Sweeeet.
Off to follow the flowchart. Since I assume it still has the original flyback on it, would it be best to get the whole flyback repair kit from Bob or should I leave well enough alone and just cap it?

Maybe I'm reading your post wrong but.....I don't think a cap kit and new fly are going to cure HV shutdown. I believe it's not a good thing to leave D10 open like that. I would assume you have other issues.

I'd wait for the experts to chime in about it before I'd turn it on again.

Oh, I'm not leaving it open. I was just trying to figure out the problem. The cap kit was on my list of things to do regardless of the other chassis problems. I was following Randy Fromm's flowchart for the HV shutdown which would now lead me to checking/replacing C57 and IC4. But yeah, I would like some experts to chime in before I blow up myself or the chassis.
