OK so I get a Area 51/ max force cab thats got a Wells 25" 7400 series in it, turn it on and I can hear the game but no monitor. OK no problem right (it's the monitor chassis thats out.) Well after swapping it out with a known good chassis I get a un-sync'd pic no matter what I try (jumpers on the area 51 board sync pins, everything) They when I'm going to test out the Area 51 board on a different monitor I notice something very very wrong with the AC power inlet. The ground is on the left and not in the middle of the three plugs!!!!

How the hell is this thing still running and why hasn't it blown the fuse? So i get that all straightned out and try to get the board to sync up to a different monitor.
nope same thing. no vert hold or hor hold. I eventually find out that it's actually both the Monitor and the area 51 boards that have the issue.

I'm going to order some IC's from bob but has anyone ever heard of such a thing. I would've though that the wire switching would have popped the fuse. Instead it seems to have blown the sync on both the PCb and monitor chassis. Ugghhhh Anyone have any insite or pointers. This one's pissin me off today.

IIRC earth ground and neutral essentially go to the same place.

For 120 they do go to the same place. If you take the panel off your breaker box you will see that the black wire goes to the breaker and the white and copper (ground) go to the same place.

However for a 220 line the black goes to one breaker, the white to another, and the copper to the ground.

Well, the main reason why you'd have sync issues when swapping monitors is because the new monitor either uses a different sync configuration, or is a different resolution than what was there previously. The K7400 look a lot like the U2000 (standard-res), K7500 (medium-res) and U5000 (dual-res), so make sure that what you swapped in is the same as what you swapped out....

Hmmm that's right they do go to the same in the breaker. Learn something new everyday.

Modd. It's for sure a 7400 series and I swapped in a spare 7400 I tested a while back and it's the same. then I tried a nicer sharper image monitor and I get the same thing. Looks like the PCB and the monitor chassis both have issues. UGhh Did get the chips all ordered up but finding a decently priced Max force board is not going to be fun.
