Monitor Gurus: Med res K7000- What the hell is this, and do I really need it.

Hey all,
I just picked up my new project/money pit Paperboy. The monitor is getting 130 volts from the isolation transformer, and she's dead as a hammer. So when I go to pull the chassis, I find something that I don't think I've come across before. Its a plastic block piece that has 3 wires coming out of it. 1 wire is ground and is bolted to the chassis frame above it. The other two goes from the monitor fly back to the white plastic connector that connects the neck board to the neck of the chassis. Thing is, this thing is spiced between the neck board and fly back and is heat shrink-ed. Not really sure what this thing is, but I have a sneaking suspicion it doesn't really need it and is just some safety device. The monitor is a 19K7600 med resolution. The picks of it are below. Anyone know what this thing is or does. And does the monitor need it to function. As it sits, I'm pretty sure I need a fly back among other things, and I hate the idea of having to spice anything between the fly back and monitor. Pics are below and your advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sorry guys, I tried to upload a pick but it just ain't happening tonight. Damned computer.

Umm yeah, you need that. Part of the monitor. I don't know why they came that way but they did. Very similar to the Zenith monitors made for Wells Gardner with the 2 piece flybacks. Doubt you will find a replacement.

In the past, I've replaced a few of those K7000 medium resolution flybacks. I did not splice that block back into the circuit. Both times I did it, the monitor operated fine without it. YMMV

please post some pics of the front and rear side of the neck board.
strait on please i need to see all of it.

i have a chassis here i am trying to fix.
and may need to find that piece somewhere.

thanks

Peace

Hopefully, these pics are what the Buffet needs.

As for the plastic whatever, I have the distinct impression that its not necessary to the monitor. It pretty much looks the same as any K7000 with the exception of that part.

Anyways, here's the pics.

Looking at the schematics, that's a focus divider.......basically, a couple resistors in an epoxy chunk. If you're replacing the flyback....try it without the divider. If it doesn't work out.....splice it in (but I doubt that'll be necessary).

Damn straight!! But it will probably just get the air hose blow off treatment. I'll probably try the new flyback with out the focus divider, I can always put it back on if it needs it. But with what I've read so far, it doesn't seem to need it.

I was going to leave it out just because, I didn't like the idea of it, but it looks like I will be forced to leave it in or on or however you would put it. Honestly, I can't figure out how to get the neck connector apart to put the wire in it short of unsoldering it from the board. So, I guess the easiest thing is to solder the wires together and heat shrink it for insulation. Bummer.
