My friend and I are working on restoring his Out Run upright. The monitor in it is having some serious issues and we're thinking of just replacing it with a new one.

A label on the monitor says Videocolor A51-427x. Will we be able to simply replace this one with a standard 19" monitor or is this a 20" version? We've not taken it out of the cabinet yet, but that's next. Then we can get a good accurate measurement.

I thought I read somewhere that Out Run had a weird 20" CRT in it, or is that just in one of the sit-down versions?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

I think that label is just the picture tube - not the monitor. In any case, that sounds like a 20" tube. Picture tube part numbers that start with AXX indicate that XX is the measurement of the tube in centimeters. A48 is a 19" tube, and A51 is 20".

What kind of monitor issues is he having, and what kind of monitor is it? Shouldn't be too hard to simply fix the monitor that's in there.

Thanks Ian, much appreciated.

I'll take a more detailed look at the monitor and start doing some diagnosis. Colors were pretty washed out, which could probably be fixed at least partially by a cap kit, but the darn thing kept losing sync periodically too. And it was making a heck of a buzzing noise. I can't remember what else was wrong with it.

We might replace it with a brand new 19", I'll see what he wants to do and how much time he wants me to spend looking at the monitor.

Thanks,
Greg
