Hey folks,
I have a Midway MK3 in an old missile command cabinet (I think.) It only has room for a 19" monitor...
I'l like to use an LCD, but this board has a funky 60Hz vertical refresh rate (I think it was called "extended resolution" back in the day) and I'm not sure what monitor it would work with.

Thanks for any info.

60hz is the standard refresh rate for both arcade games and NTSC television. The Mortal Kombat games run at 54hz or something like that, I doubt you will find any compatible LCD. Even if you did get it working, it'd look terrible.

You can not use a converter to change CGA to VGA for Mortal Kombat. It actually runs at 53Hz and trying to run that through a converter that's using 60Hz, all you get is a frozen screen. I made a video of what happens when you try and convert it...

You will need to find an actual 19" CRT or an LCD monitor that accepts CGA input. Unless someone else has come across a solution. I don't want to tell you that you are TOTALLY unsable to use a converter.

53Hz! Interesting. I had actually hooked up the MK3 board to a LCD converter (which froze, like above) and a few CRTs which looked terrible.
Shame there is no LCD solution yet...because I kind of morally object to buying new CRTs these days.

Back to storage it goes, I guess.

Yeah. I just bought a 26" Vision Pro LCD, Bezel, Mounting Kit, and power cable. Grand total was $630. I'll review it when I get home.

Wow... Their monitors look good. Does anybody recommend their alalog arcade monitors? They say no isolation transformer required?

What you gonna do with that 26" LCD Mike? MAME?

I did a review of the 25" Flat Screen Makvision they sell...

Yes, the LCD will end up in the Mame cab and the brand new Makvision that's in the Mame cab now will end up in my MK1. :)

THat monitor looks awesome... And you need to do a video of the LCD Mame and the Makvision in your MK1 when you get back to the states.. I wanna see how they all look.

Also to avoid the monitor looking small in your MKII, would the 27" fit in the MK cabs? According to their website on the 27" dimentions, it says that the 27" is 24 inches wide. Just curious if it would fit. I'd have to measure the insides of the cabs.

The 27" monitor has the same bracketry as the 24.8." Should fit right it just like the original. Trust me, I'll detail the install of the 26" LCD just like this one. Stay tuned. It's already at my house waiting for me. I ordered 2 more 24.8" Makvisions since they're on sale and they will go in the MK3 and the MK4. The UMK3 has a K7400 that I bought brand new from Happ when they still sold Wells Gardner stuff and it only has less than 100 hours of actual "on" time, so for all intents and purposes, it's still brand new. After all is said and done, I'll have a brand new monitor in all my MK cabs with roughly 4 working extra ones for cabs I get later in case they are missing monitors or have non-working ones.
