So I just bought an MK4. The monitor plays fine but after a half hour to an hour the monitor goes extremely bright to the point that it isnt playable.

It is a WG7000 series monitor looks to be the original monitor. Looks like it might be missing a pot off of the adjustment board. Can a replacement be procured?

Anyways I have another cab with a beautiful monitor looks to be the same haven't fully checked it, but it is the cab that had housed my MKII game. I was thinking of just swapping out monitors. How difficult is a monitor swap like this, is it worth it or am I better off sending this one off to be repaired do you think?

I am comfortable with any wiring in a cab, but messing with the monitor scares the crap out of me.

Any thoughts would be great.

Well, first you need to identify EXACTLY which monitors you have. Tube size, chassis model, etc. There are different versions of the K7xxx and not all are interchangeable. Some don't populate all of the spots on the remote, either.

Now, if both have the same size tube, you COULD swap the entire thing (tube, frame, chassis) if you want, then get the other fixed, or try doing it yourself. Most likely just needs a cap kit, but could be a tube issue...

Thanks for the reply. They appear by all measurements to be the same tube size...games are at my restaurant now, so not 100% on it. Assuming they are all the same size, how arduous of a task is this? And on the subject how dangerous? Like I said the cap kit thing scares the hell out of me as I have heard horror stories of discharges etc.

Well, you should research how to discharge, although the K7000 monitors will normally discharge themselves if they are working properly.

These monitors aren't little, or light. You'll have to open the back so you can disconnect the wiring (pay attention so you can hook up the other). Then you'll have to pull the control panel forward (reach in thru the coin door to undo the retaining latches). Once the CP is out, remove the glass and plastic bezel around the monitor (there might be a bracket you have to take off first). then slide the CP back in so you have easier access to the tube. Remove the 4 nuts holding it in place, then get someone to help you pull it out. You need to tip the top forward first, then lift the bottom off of the lugs and then lift the entire thing out of the cab. Pay attention so you don't accidentally hit the neck on the cab when pulling it out. If you break it, it's garbage.

Put it in in reverse. Always helps to have a 3rd person to stay behind it and guide it in as the other two lower it in. get the bottom holes of the frame lined up with the lugs, slip it on, then set it back so the top goes in. Put the nuts back on, everything else back the way it was, and done...

Thank you again for the replies I appreciate it. I am thiking I am gonna switch out the monitors now and then fix the bad one at my leisure.

Again thank you.
