I'm sure you guys get this question asked all the time, but does this look like something that needs a cap kit? I'm new to the arcade collecting business. The monitor is a G07-CB0.

When you turn on the Ms Pacman the edge curl is maybe just a little worse than the picture below, but after leaving it on for over an hour it pretty much stays like this.

I just got this machine from someone who told me that it was fine before they moved across state, but upon arriving in their new house the monitor started to exhibit this behavior. I don't have another vertical oriented PCB to thrown in there.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Standard response of just cap it?

Thanks,

Steven

I have a similar monitor that does the same thing.
you are talking about the very top (horizontally) where the top pushes to the right side in a curved manner?

mine has new caps and a resistor or two replaced. still does it.
even after adjusting all the pots the top still curls a bit.

I was told it's a timing issue with the horizontal sync but i have no clue how to fix it.
annoying, but still playable.

Yeah I had this mod done on one of my Go7. Did it myself on the last one I capped Seems like it took care of a bit of the curl. Makes it smaller I think but didn't notice to much to begin with. Machines I use it with are Ghost N Goblins and Haunted Castle.

Oh, that is enlightening!

you know i remember reading something about that with a paper in the capkit but i didn't understand because it didn't mention "curl" in the instructions.

makes sense now. that's why when i play joust on original boards the monitor is fine, and then when i use the newer multi board it is a problem.

guess i'll just live with it contentedly. thanks much!

I have a tube with a NEW universal chassis doing this, and Jomac said it was the yoke on the tube causing it.

That made sense to me as the tube was from and old TV. I plan on replacing the tube and seeing if it goes away

Hmmm. So essentially since its a small curl just live with it unless I wanna buy a new monitor. I'm not savvy enough yet to replace the tube.

I tried fiddling with h sync and that did nothing.

Looking at your photo, I notice that the right side isn't as wide (proportionately) as the left side -- (the right side is more "squished".) I'd play with your h. freq pot a little to even that out and see what happens. In terms of the curl, I only see some minor curl on the right tunnels. Overall, there really isn't much to complain about; the corners look decent. On my Ms. Pac (g07 monitor), I also have a tiny bit of curl visible where the right tunnels are and that's it. This is after the monitor was rebuilt and the curl mod was done. But really, the curl is so minor and not real noticeable so I've just lived with it.

EDIT: I had a similar problem originally (in terms of the disproportionate image) where one side was wider than the other side. Here's my original thread and I discuss
what I did to fix it using just the monitor pots/controls... http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=37447

I'm sure the monitor gurus will chime in on this, but here's Bob's steps for dealing with monitor curl on a G07: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/g07notes.html
LOL @ who ever installed this cap...

I'm not monitor guru like many others on here, but have you checked your B+ voltage to see if it is 120 DCV ? That has caused me issues on a G07 just recently.
