I did a couple of cap kits, and I would say that I am 0.5 for 2 in cap kit success. Both chassis (did you know the plural of chassis is chassis?) are WG2K7191, and here are my issues.

Chassis #1 - After the cap kit, the first chassis has a horizontal collapse with only about a couple of inches of a picture showing across the middle of the monitor. Can anybody provide any guidance as to what items I might check to resolve this issue.

Chassis #2 After the cap kit, the monitor worked fine for the first couple of hours then the color red would disappear, and if you would bang on the cabinet, sometimes red would come back. Now, sometimes red is there, and sometime it isn't. I switched out the tube with another one and still experienced the same effect. Does any one have any recommendations as to what I should check to resolve this issue.

I totally hate doing cap kits. I think I am avarage with soldering, and there is nothing more frustrating for me than to spend an hour and a half on a cap kit and for the chassis to not work when done.

reflow time

Chassis #1 - reflow with new solder the pins to IC 4 if my memory serves me. its the IC screwed to the aluminum heat sink. could be the chip has gone bad but soldering the chip legs can fix it if it has hairline cracks on it/them and inhibiting electron flow. this was a working chassis before?

Chassis #2 - reflow the 3 neckboard transistors' legs for cold solder joints too. me? if they look burnt or you cant read the numbers on the chip i just replace all three with new ones. cant remember if that model has an electrolytic capacitor on the neck board, replace it if it does.

I totally hate doing cap kits.--if you can fix the problem, just think about how much money you've saved !

Here is my suggestion, pay someone to fix these two chassis and then pay them again next time you need one recapped.

you also might reflow the solder to the pins where your wiring comes from your motherboard...red especially
